Hi all,

just thought i'd share this story. we have an almost 3-year-old boxer (Prince) and decided we wanted to get him a playmate. everyone knows how great adoption is- so we decided to adopt another dog! so we searched the boxer rescue websites and after being approved for adoption, decided we wanted a female dog, younger than prince. there were not many young females available, so at the suggestion of the rescue, we decided to go and meet a 6.5-year-old male, Colors. we were concerned about if they'd get along (2 males in one apartment) and we were unsure about it because we really wanted an active playmate for Prince.

Well, the moral of this story is that older dogs rock! we decided to go for the older boxer Colors, and it is working out beautifully! He is just as active as Prince (though he does like to sleep more!) and is such a wonderful doggie! i just wanted to share this story with everyone because we were one of 'those people' who wanted to adopt a younger dog, but we were lucky enough to take a chance on an older chap and couldn't be happier!

so oldies are goodies:D- please don't hesitate to adopt a middle-aged or senior boxer!

YAY!

How wonderful! Since adopting a young male (about 1 year old when we got him), husband and I decided that our second -- or next one, since we're not sure we could handle two at once -- will be an "oldie." There's so many of them out there, and they really are not all that different from the young ones, other than they have perhaps a 95% activity level rather than the normal 100% boxers are known for.

Congratulations on the new addition to the family, and good for you! I love the way you phrased it: "oldies but goodies." So true!

Great News! I always thought I'd go for a younger dog when we go to adopt. But the more I think about it I am not going to let age be the deciding factor. The best things about boxers is their youthful quality that follows them into their later years. Mason will be four this year and most people who meet him peg him at 1 1/2! I am glad to hear things are working out with your new fur baby!

I just adopted a 6.5 yr old boy to keep my active 3 yr old girl company. Its great. I vol. for a rescue group here in Fla. Let me tell you Tyson is great ambassader for boxers and for senior dogs. As it was stated in a post before. Tyson rocks. He is a perfect boxer. I love my female but she is non stop and tyson has helped some to calm her down.

Lets her it for silver boxers
