I'm considering adopting a boxer from the local animal shelter. I have never owned a Boxer but my family has. I'm interested to find out what questions I should have answered prior to adopting this "death row" dog.

Boxers are the best! Here are some things to ask about/find out....what is his/her temperment with people, children, other dogs, cats? Has he/she been tested for heartworms? Is he or she an escape artist? Any training? Any concerns that the shelter knows about? I know these kinds of things are tough with a rescue but it doens't hurt to ask. Our first Boxer was a rescue from a shelter and she was TERRIFIC! SHe got us totally hooked on the breed!

I say if you think this dog will fit in your family - GO FOR IT!

Completely Boxer Crazy
Excellent questions to ask from ChrisM. I would also try and find out the circumstances from which this baby came. That could explain a lot of its personality. Believe me, this Boxer baby will become your best friend. They can sense that you saved them from a horrible fate. You must have patience until they get settled. Also, Boxers are people dogs. They must be around you and do not like to be put out and ignored. They love to cuddle and be cuddled and kissed, etc. They love attention and will return all love to you 10 fold. You will be hooked. If you decide not to adopt this baby, please contact the local Boxer rescue so that he/she will not be destroyed. There is a list on this board of rescue agencies in your area. But please consider taking him yourself. Let us know what you decide.

Once you own a boxer, you will never want another breed. They are extremely affectionate and devoted. I have had 4 furing my lifetime and now am fostering and hoping to adopt #5. Please consider adopting this boxer or let one of the boxer rescue organizations know about it and they will rescue it. Goog Luck

Thanks for all of your help on the topic. I am meeting with the shelter on Saturday to see the Boxer. I have already called and talked the them a few times to have the questions answered. I'll get back to everyone as soon as I meet the little guy. Thanks again for all of the help.

Good luck on your adoption.
Remember to choose wisely. Please ask lots of questions regarding why this dog was left behind. I'm not saying don't adopt a rescue,I did. I know lots of people discard pets just because they are tired of the pet. :(

I wish you the very best and pray that this will work out for you and the boxer baby.
