New puppy potty training! (I'm new here!!)

Hello all! I'm new to your message board!
Ok....I have a 11 wk old male boxer and a 3 year old spayed female. My problem is with the puppy. We crate him during the day and he does not use the potty in his crate. But at night we let him sleep in our bedroom with the other dog on a pallet beside our bed. ( I don't want to crate him during working hours and at night.) He potties all over the house. I have never seen one small animal poop and pee so much in one night!! He knows "go peepee outside" and will go to the door but, wont hold it though the night. He has stopped chewing things up at night time while we sleep but I cant seem to break him of the potty issue! Anything I can do other than crate him? I really don't want to do that. Seems like to long to be confined.

You need to crate him at night. Everytime he potties in the house it will delay his housetraining. The alternative is to take him out every couple of hours. If you crate him, you may not need to take him out at all.

I can understand how you feel, but it won't be for ever. It really is the safest way!

I have looked.......Can't find anything

I have looked everywhere I know how to look and can't find anything on my exact situation. We crate him during the day to keep him from chewing everthing up. We tried picking up everthing off the floor in a very large bathroom and putting him in there but he just chews on the door frame. (I put lots of toys and chewables in there with him.) I guess my question now is.... Is it to much to crate him during working hours and at night too? I plan to put him outside with the other dog during the day when he gets bigger and be in the house when we are here. How long do you think it would take to keep him from pottying during the night?

Jan is right. Either you have to crate him at night, or you have to set your alarm and get up every couple of hours to let him out. Personally, I also let my puppies sleep w/ me at night (but they are actually in the bed so I can feel when they get restless). I don't think it's too much to crate them at night and during the day (with the necessary amount of breaks), because at night they are sleeping. Once they fall asleep they won't even realize they are in the crate. Some members put the crate next to their bed at night. If you do that, at least he will still be near you, but won't have the chance to roam around the house. I have a 17 week old puppy and a 12 week old puppy. While sometimes they can both make it through the night, it's not consistent. I get up at least once, sometimes 2 - 3 times, during the night to let them out. Your puppy is still quite young. I would worry more about getting him housetrained than I would about how long it's going to take for him to make it through the night. If you focus on the first, the second will come sooner than you think.
