Hello I am currently a new member to the board. My name is Regina and I am also a new mommy to a white boxer, named Butch. I have a few questions to anyone who can answer them. Butch has a very finicky appetite when it comes to his food. I am so far unsuccessful in all my approaches. The breeder I got him from told me that he used a certain type of food, well I did and he still sniffs it then looks at me as if saying "let me get this straight , this is my food huh?" Is their anything that I can do to get him to eat. Any help would be appreciated .

Welcome to the board!! We also have a white boxer.
This is such a great place for advice, opinions, and just to share boxer stories!!

As for your question about the food. Personally we have never had this problem with any of our boxers. They seem to inhale their food.
I would be persistent. Keep offering it to him. After 20 minutes or so, pick up his bowl until the next meal time.
Do NOT hand feed him; do NOT add "people food" to his food; do NOT continue to change the brand of food. He will eventually eat, and doing any of these things will encourage him to be finicky. Good luck!!

Thank you Linda and krikkit. I will continue the approach with your twenty minute advice. I also love the site even though I am so new to the boxer world.

Hi!!! and welcome! When I worked at a boarding kennel and we had a dog that was picky, we would add Gerber Baby Food. Like Veal, beef chicken, or stew. Get the little jars and just mix it in.

Ona I never thought of that. Thank you. It would be all over the dog food and then he would have to eat it to get the gerber off. He ate a small, i mean small, amount of dry dog food today. Hoping he continues the eating.

Butch has ate two platefuls of doggie food!!!! :D I put his bowl down in the other morning and left it there for about twenty minutes. As I came back in the kitchen to put it up Butchie was wolfing down it all. He has keep his appetite for the last two days. Thank You everybody for the support and advice. :D

Hi. Gunner was a picky eater also. Dry food was unthinkable. At first I added warm water to make the food soft. He ate it like that for a few months then one day would not have anything to do with it. I started adding a couple spoonfuls of soft food to his regular dry food and that did it. Gunner loves his Iams as long as there is something special mixed in. Happy to hear your baby has eaten.

Thanks Michelle. Yeah Butch is a regular little piggy now. lol. He is constantly in the kitchen now with his plate banging the floor trying to get more. By the way thats another thing. Does anybody else's boxer refuse to eat out of a bowl. Butch will tip it over if it is in a bowl. I finally had to put it in a plate. :)
