Hello!
I'm so glad I found Boxer World - what a cool site!!
Ali is the owner of me - she's 15 months old, red & white and completely adorable (of course, aren't they all?)
I've just taken her on holiday with me to Taupo - she loved playing in the lake but as yet is not confident enough to swim - we have a creek at home she plays in but it's not deep enough to swim in - any ideas to encourage her in further?? (Chasing the stick didn't work.)
We've recently started agility training which she LOVES!
I'm sure I'll be back to this site soon!

Michelle.

Hello Michelle,

Welcome to the board, I hope you'll enjoy it! My boxer who is over 11 years old now can't swim and according to some surveys most of them can't swim too. Good luck!

Hi Michelle

Welcome to the board.

Good luck getting Ali to swim. Markus won't swim either but he loves to play in the water. Some boxers do swim, but I don't think they ever swim very well as they are heavy for their size and if they don't keep swimming they tend to sink. LOL :)

Hi and welcome to the board. If you take Ali out where there are other dogs swimming she may get the hint to do what they are doing. This worked with my Boxer Ruby. Even though she's not great at swimming she goes in the water and plays.

Ok I have a good Idea, I bought my girls a harness and attached the lead and walked slowly in (very slowly). Keep play talking in an excited voice, a slight tug when the water is deep enough then they automatically started to swim. Keep doing this until their confidence has grown, then you have real problems, trying to get them out.

As for agility on one loved it and knew how to get laughs. Minx-ie Moo (Sandy) was great then one day she refused a jump and walked under, unfortunately the others in class chuckled. Anyway teacher lowered the jump and Minx-ie Moo went under again, and the laughter rose from other class members :D The whole event was like watching a limbo dance until teacher lowered it to about 10 inches. "There" she said "now try getting under that" Oh, she did, :p she laid down on her side and wriggles under. Buy that time the whole class were in uncontrollable laughter and Minx-ie moo just played to them :D

So good luck and please keep us all informed you've got some real fun and games to come :D
