Hi! I'm mom to a female boxer that is 2 years old. Her name is "Flower." (My kids named her!) We have had her since she was 8 or 9 weeks old. She is a very attractive dog. I hope to get some pictures on here sometime. I don't have time to figure it out right now.

I was looking for a way to make some money and something that my children would enjoy helping with. Kind of a family project! Each one of them will have their own dog and the proceeds go toward their college education someday if they choose to go! Not to mention - what would life be like without a dog. We always had dogs when I was growing up!!

We are very excited about having Flower and of course, having puppies which may be happening very soon! This will be our first time! I am going to need a lot of advice and help through this. If anyone can suggest a book that explains EVERYTHING I need to know about caring for a dog through pregnancy and delivery as well as taking care of the newborn puppies, that would be really great!!!!!

I'm thrilled to have found this website and I really enjoy looking at all the pictures of your dogs. They are all so cute!

Believe me when I say this is not a way to make money :( Breeding is a very sensitive topic here as we are commited to loving and preserving the breed. If your dog has been shown and been sucessful in conformation and had all adequate tests : heart, hips, thyroid etc. then you are doing things the right way and likely have a breeder mentoring you.

So, this will be like a puppymill/commercial breeding project? Each kid has a dog that produces puppies that they sell to finance their education?

Wow, is that scary.

You obviously didn't read the rules that you said you'd read and agreed to follow when you signed up here - please do so now. In particular the part that says:

Please note that the following topics are inappropriate on this site:

__discussion of breeding practices that would be deemed by most to be unethical or irresponsible. This would include, but is not limited to: breeding white Boxers, breeding young dogs, breeding untested dogs, breeding for any purpose other than to improve the breed and/or your line). Back yard breeders and commercial breeders are not welcome. You can check the rescue section at http://boxerworld.com/rescue to see who they are.

I realize that you live in Missouri, which is the nucleus for puppymill activity, but it just is not a behavior that we welcome on this forum. There are several groups online that will support your plans, and even teach you how to cut corners so you can make the most profit, but this is not one of them.

You're welcome to discuss Boxer-related issues that are in accordance with the rules, and to ask questions about breeding responsibly, but any further posts that promote or defend irresponsible breeding will be closed.

This is one of the most unacceptable and irresponsible reasons to ever breed a litter. Money? Kiss it good-bye with all the costs of a breeding and all the vet bills. College education? Tell the kids to get jobs (I had to). The kids want a dog? You already have one with your female Boxer.

Please save her life and have her spayed. You will be a much happier Boxer owner.

Please Think Twice

PLEASE read everything you can on breeding. FYI- I live in KC missouri and had a litter last December. After the testing alone BEFORE even breeding her we were MORE THAN BROKE. A friend that was mentoring me through the litter tried to warn me ahead of time all of the odds and ends that absolutely can not be ignored, but I had NO CLUE what all had to be done. AND after all the added testing etc. came out correct we already agreed to breed, if i wouldn't have given my word and especially if any one of the tests would've had the slightest hint of something being off I WOULD HAVE NEVER HAVE DONE IT. ANd I guarantee you this would not be a fun activity for the kids. If the kids are younger, it is harder on everyone, especially mom. I have a 7 year old nephew that I watch a lot. When Cedes had her pups, she got extrememly nervous and anxious when he was around, and he was her best buddy. Kids just think pups are cute and meant to be held, this is FAR from the facts. It is hard to make kids understand why they can't get too close to them or why they can't hold them because of all of the complications that could occur. They aren't family pets they become MOTHERS and they WILL bite ANYONE they feel might bring harm to their babies. So this means the kids wouldn't be able to be around the pups like they want. I had to refuse my nephew from coming over because the disposition was so apparent that he was still loved, just not welcome in the baby room. Please consider everything anyone has put on the board, because it is all true. I have had a litter of pups in Missouri and I did everything by the book, and I LOST MONEY.. SO this is no money maker. After I went through it all, I practically gave the dogs away I sold them so cheap. WHY.. because I learned that it was in no way about the money. I was able to give 5 families a gift of another family member that was completely healthy with a clear background and would mean to them what my girl means to me. I have a personal relationship with every person I sold a dog to. Infact, only 1 person is not a family member or "personal" friend. I think all in all I made money to cover the expense of dog food! That's about it!!!! PLEASE for the sake of this breed, do not consider breeding without having proper test ran and meeting all breeding standards. The future BREED depends on it. OH AND HAVING PUPS IS HARDER WORK THAT YOU WOULD EVER THINK. I now know why the most breeders don't work. THANK GOD we had the litter over Christmas and Tony (who works construction) was able to stay home with the babies and cedes everyday. And we still barely survived! YET, my main purpose for breeding gave me my 2 boys from this litter and I wouldn't trade their beautiful HEALTHY hearts for anyone!
