Ok just for those who don't know, I am new here and my new 3 year old boxer (Jade) I rescued. She was tied to a tree (Nebraska brrr) and has three pups. So I won't go into alot of detail unless someone needs me to but.... Jade is staying in our garage. I know sounds terrible but she has never been inside and right now she has a yucky tummy so it would be REAL bad if she went on the floor. I take her out alot and walk with her and let her potty. Anyway, sorry for the babbling, my goal in getting her was to keep her and get her trained for inside but I made a discovery today. Jade HATES cats. Since we have a cat that is bad. Now since she is older and probably really set in her ways at least about cats is there any hope for her to really become a part of our family? Does anyone have ideas? I already am really falling in love with her but she has to be able to get along with our cat.

Thanks, New boxer mama

Wow. You have a lot to deal with here. First off, what is up with her stomach? Has she been vet checked? Did you get her through a rescue or just find her and take her in? I have to admit it bothers me that she is in a garage. Is the garage warm?

I think the cat question is secondary here at the moment. The first priority has to be to get this girl inside and if you want to keep her that means keeping her separated from the cats at the moment. However you came to have her I applaud you for rescuing her from that horrible situation but she has to be very stressed, disoriented and even scared right now. So I guess, yes, a little more info would be good. Such a sad story this girl has :(

Her tummy issues are because of a (I think) a food change, the fact that she actually gets food, and nerves I think. It is getting better. She isn't pooping what looks like colored water anymore. She has not yet been to the vet but will go on Monday because it was the earliest the vet could see her. I really don't have alot of vet options where I am so I have to use what I can get. I knew it would bother some about the whole garage thing (the garage is really more like an extention of the basement, hard to explain) but the garage is warm and the floor isn't all concrete there is some carpet too. Plus she has one of those plastic kennel/doghouse things that her and the pups are in with blankets. I also spend alot of time with her and am trying to teach her some basic manners like not jumping and such. I promise she is as comfortable as I can do right now. At the very least she is in a better spot and gets all the loving she can take. I did not get her from a rescue. I go to our humane society often and the lady that works there happened to tell me about Jade. I went to the house she was living at and just asked the lady there if I could take her to either find her a good "warm" home to live in or to keep her myself if possible.

Oh my goodness-you have the pups too! How old are they? And , yes, she is in a better place-I am amazed at what you did taking them all-God bless you. Look, she is warm and she and her pups are safe. I would just keep her comfy until she , and the pups, are vet checked. There is alot of info on here on nursing dogs that will be helpful to you. Is she still nursing? I really think you should take this a day at a time and just keep the cats away all together. You can not deal with that issue right now. And no matter what you decide-rehoming her or whatever-you have clearly saved her life, and most likely her pups as well, so give yourself a little credit and hang in there. Please, please let us know how you make out at the vet. I am rooting for all of you :) BTW, have you named the pups ? :)

Lol the pups are only just over a couple of weeks old. No I haven't named them. The person I got them from said they were born Christmas day but I am not sure I believe that. They are really big and fat. Haha They are adorable. Jade is a very good mom. I don't even know what kind of dog their dad is but there are two boys and one girl. One boy (he is a big one, maybe weighs 2lbs or so) is reverse brindle really is the only way to describe it with a patch about pinky finger tip sized on his chin of white. They other two are mostly white with patches of brindle. Very cute. I promise to try and get some pictures if I can figure out how to post them I will. Thanks for your support it is appreciated.

I just wanted to agree with Elubas in saying that you are doing such a good thing and thank you so much for rescuing all of them from such bad conditions. I agree that you should just take things a day at a time for now until you can get them all in to the vet and then go from there. As far as the cat situation goes, I don't have any advice, but I am sure that many members will be able to offer suggestions. Please keep us updated on their progress.

Your an angel for rescuing Jade and her little pups!!!! It doens't take long to fall in love with Boxers...there absolutely great ;) I hope her vet visit went well today, keep us informed. Also, what is Jade eating now? I'm sure her tummy is getting used to solid food since she hardley had anything before.

Do you plan on keeping any of the pups? I'm sure a rescue would take them if you had any nearby...of course they would probably wait until they got a little older.

Keep us posted on Jade's health and her pups.

Sorry I don't have any advice on the cat situation, hopefully someone else can offer thier experiences with you.

Jade's visit to the vet went well. Plan is to give her shots and worming stuff after the pups have quit nursing. She will be fixed as well then. Sorry no more detail. I have been ill and am plan wore out but wanted to let you all know how things were going.

So glad things went well at the vet. Hoping you're feeling better yourself! Boxer hugs will help YOU too! lol Thank you for taking care of those babies and mom. I too, would not push the cat/dog to be together. With time, as long as everybody is well cared for and warm, etc. maybe you can begin to carefully expose the dog to the cat from afar and work with them until they accept each other. Everybody here will be glad to try and offer suggestions when that time comes. Get well and God bless you!
