I have to chime in on the aversive methods. These are only temporary fixes. Dogs will get accustomed to them and then they will become ineffective. Then you may resort to more aversive methods......creating a chain of ineffective training tools.
Try redirecting to a more positive option. A stuffed kong in a crate can reward behaviors and halt unwanted ones. Dogs train best with positive reinforcement and positive direction. Disciplining bad behavior won't teach your dog proper behaviors. By using positive methods, positive reinforcement and positive rewards, you teach proper behaviors achieve positive rewards. Just like kids, they acheive much higher results with positive direction, learning proper behaviors and will repeat behaviors for positive results.
