My puppy has Fleas

I picked up Max from the dog breeder and when we got home we found out he has fleas. What can we do to a 9 week pup to get rid of fleas? I checked on frontline and they said it is not for puppies. A flea collar will only help around his neck correct?

I would call your vet and see what they recommend. Then I would call the breeder and tell them that their pups are infested with fleas. :(

When Abbie was to young to Frontline and Advantix. The vet gave me cap star. It is a small pill you give them it will kill all the fleas on them and keep them off for 24 hours. I gave her one twice a week and it worked out pretty well.

Check with your vet first, we had to treat our first boxer boy for fleas when he was a puppy and it was a different product to adult treatments. You also need to treat your house, vacuum everywhere, wash all bedding etc - we also got a spray for the house from the vet too.

:( Doesn't sound like a very good breeder. Definitely call your vet.

He seems to take care of the dogs he has. The puppies where seperated in a saw dust covered pin from the full grown dogs. I was assuming they got the flea from the floor covering saw dust he was using.

I got the shot records and he was up to date and was given worm meds.

Yes, you do live and learn. Good/Responsible breeders whelp and raise litters indoors; in their home. Unfortunately it sounds like you purchased from a BYB - Backyard Breeder - (do a search on here and you will learn some more )

Depending on what your vet says, get yourself a flea comb and use that to help get some of the fleas off of the little one. Poor Max, it has to be uncomfortable.

He been breeding for 15 years and only breeds Boxers and Bull Masstif. It is hard to tell though if he is a good or bad breeder. He fits more of the good breeder then the bad. Max is the first puppy litter from the mom. He does not like to breed his dog a lots.

My wife search him completely to day and only found three fleas. She bought some puppy shampoo with flea stuff in it and washed him. Only three dead fleas where found on the towel.

My vet said go get Frontline Plus for 11-22lb dog and use that to kill any eggs or fleas missed. So we are going to do that tonight.

I am definately no vet, but I would not put Frontline on a 9 wk old puppy. It even says on the box not to. There are some very harsh chemicals in flea products that can be very harmful to pups.
