We have a 7 month old boxer who was diagnosed with pink eye about 2 weeks ago, we did everything right, putting the meds in the eye 4 times a day. Apparently it was itching poor Rocky so bad that as he tried to scratch it, he scratched himself raw on his forehead. We took him back to the vet and he told us that the infection from the pink eye has now spread to his forehead. Poor thing had to be knocked out so the vet could put meds on the raw spot. It has been 3 days since that happened and he is still itching. We are doing everything the vet has said to do, but he still seems like he is in such distress. Poor thing, we can't even let him go outside except to go to the bathroom for fear the raw spot will get dirty. Has anyone else experienced something like this? Our vet seemed VERY concerned about it and I am worried that his fur may not grow back on his forehead (the vet had to shave it, what poor Rocky had not scratched off) Any suggestions to help with the itching?? Maybe we should resort to one of those cone things around his neck so he can't get to it??

I would put an e-collar so that he can't scratch it. Maybe a Benadryl would help with the itching and it would get a chance to heal.
