My neighbor’s dog is missing. She is a one year old pit-bull. I feel terrible for them but on the other hand they are frustrating me as well. She got out on Thursday. She is in heat and yet they still gave her free roam of the back yard. I guess they didn’t think she’d try to escape. She has no microchip or tags.

They have been driving around and talking to neighbors in an attempt to find her. They are also checking with the shelter but what’s making me crazy is that they haven’t put up any signs (at least not in our neighborhood). I gave them a bunch of suggestions but they didn’t seem interested in what I was saying. I know they love this dog and want her back but for some reason they aren’t being very aggressive with their tactics. All I know is if I were in their shoes I would be handling the situation much differently.

Even if someone has seen her or has her without signs they have no way of contacting the owners.

I’m very scared for this dog. She wouldn’t have to travel very far to find someone who would use her as a fighting or bait dog… and being that she is unaltered and in heat she is definitely going to end up pregnant.

My husband spotted her this morning. We knocked on the neighbor’s door but they were not home. We tried to catch her but she tried to bite us. The poor thing is very scared and is in terrible condition. She looks like she was beat up. And she is soooo skinny, its amazing how much they loose in just a few days.

We called animal control twice…I hope they can catch her…but they are known for being very slow to respond.

Wow... I wish you guys could have got her today. Can you try coaxing her with food? I pray they (Or you) can catch her and I hope that if the owners get her back they will fix this problem. She will be in my thoughts and prayers.

oh - this kind of thing just makes me so sad. Good for you for being more caring and responsible than the dog's owners. I hope she's not hurt. Have you tried luring her with some food? It doesn't take long for some dogs to revert to a "wild" state when they've been out on their own for a while, plus they are very scared. A trainer once told me that she tried to catch a dog that had been loose for a while and was very scared. It took her several days and attempts but she finally was able to gain the dog's trust and capture it by slowly putting down food (meat or steaks) and slowly getting closer and gaining it's trust. Hope someone catches her soon. Good luck in you can catch her and keep us posted!

When DH spotted her she was running out of our neighborhood so I think she tried to come home but when she couldn’t get into her house she took off again. You’d think the owners would leave her food out so she’d stick around.

We tried to catch her for an hour but she wasn’t interested in us at all. We had food & leash but it seems like she is in “survival mode”. I tossed food to her and she didn’t even smell it. After an hour we had to give up because she was running into the busy street and getting further & further away from home. And she tried to bite my husband so he decided we were done.

I cannot explain how bad she looks; she had cuts all over her head. Poor thing. I don’t mean to be harsh but I’m really ticked at her owners. She has obviously been running the streets for 4 days. I’m sure other people besides us have seen her. If they would have put signs up people would more likely to be calling the owners or animal control with sightings and she probably would have been caught by now. I am worried she is going to get hit by a car.

I really, really hope animal control responded. She wasn’t moving very fast so as long as they have a catch pole they should be able to get a hold of her.

Our neighbors were very happy to know that she is still alive and relatively well. They stopped by our house to find out where her last known location was. Then they drove around all night trying to find her. This morning I noticed they put food & water out so obviously they were not able to find her. They still have not put up any signs which I just do not understand

We will not know if animal control picked her up until Weds. The shelter is closed on Mon/ Tues which is so frustrating. If my dog was missing and I had to wait two days to check the shelter I’d be going crazy. But in all honesty I really doubt they have her. DH has to deal with animal control all the time (he’s a cop) and they always take hours to respond to stuff. Half the time DH does their job for them because he’s tried of waiting.

Anyway keep your fingers crossed for this little girl. Today is the 5th day she has been gone.

I hate to think of lost dogs being out on their own and having to fend for themselves. A couple stopped me last year when I was out walking and asked me if I had seen their missing bulldog. He had been missing for 2 days. He had escaped from their yard with their golden retriever who had been out overnight but had returned home. They told me approx. where they lived. Even though we didn't know these people it bothered me so much that my husband and I went out looking for him. We didn't find him but knowing the area we had an idea of where he might have gone. So we went in search of these people's house to share our idea with them and luckily we found them. To our relief their bulldog had just come home. They invited us in and low and behold they had a boxer crated in their kitchen! Of course I was thrilled! We spent an hour there playing with their boxer.

Animal control is somewhat slow in my town too. It can be very frustrating. I hope the owners don't give up on their search. You would think they would post flyers. Wonder why they don't? Sending prayers that she returns home soon and safely!

Keeping fingers crossed and sending lots of positive vibes out that the puppy girl either returns home or is found soon. It's hard for me to understand, too, why the owners don't put flyers out, contact vets in the area, and even call a local paper and ask for help.....hopefully they have done some of these things. Thank you for caring so much.

They haven’t found her. I feel so bad that we weren’t able to catch her when we had the chance. I should have done more or followed her or something. I shouldn’t have given up but at the time I felt like we were making the situation worse and that we were chasing her further from home. I thought if we stopped chasing her that she’d return home.

It breaks my heart to think of this poor dog hungry, thirsty, & most likely pregnant living on the streets. I don’t know why I allow it to bother me so much but I just can’t stop thinking about her. I have changed my route to work so I can keep an eye out and I make DH keep a look out for her while he’s patrolling at night.
