Completely Boxer Crazy
I haven't had alot of time lately to come to the forums and let everyone know how Mindy is doing, so I thought I would write a quick update.
Mindy is doing so good. All those times I wondered if I would ever be able to like her let alone love her, those times are all gone. I love this dog without any doubt, she has most definitely turned out to be my companion. We are still staying with my parents and helping take care of my grandmother. Mindy has learned to steer clear of the walker and be careful around the IV tubing. When the time comes, she will be a great therapy dog!
Now that she isn't sick anymore, we are going to group training classes, currently our class is working specifically on focus, using alot of NILF practices. This is really good for her b/c he is incredibly impulsive, especially around other dogs. I thought she would be the worst in the class, but she isn't (actually the trainers dog is the worst!). It seems strange, but since she has been able to be around other dogs and play, she has calmed down alot. I am hoping to keep working with her and possibly do some agility. She would be perfect for it and I think we would both enjoy it, but we have much work ahead for that goal.
Besides our class, I try to take her to alot of new places, stores she is allowed in, parks and let her meet new dogs as long as she is relatively calm. We haven't had any incidents and she seems to love it.
She still has some issues we are working on, chewing shoes, digging, counter surfing, leash walking, but I think (knock on wood) for now we have overcome our major problems. Looks like Mindy found the perfect home after all.
