I remember the day I brought you home. You were a cute little boxer puppy with an attitude. I had no idea what I was in for. I remember you coming flying across the room and launching yourself at me and biting me with those sharp little puppy teeth. I thought you were a horrible puppy and wanted to take you back. I wish there had been a Boxerworld to tell me that you were just a normal boxer puppy. I took you too my sister’s in Alberta and while we were away, you turned the corner and I could see the light at the end of the tunnel. I wanted to take you to obedience trials and I took you to classes every week for 2 years. You turned into a pretty good dog. You actually won a couple of Sanction Matches and got one leg towards your Novice title. Unfortunately, you really hated it so I decided to lay you off for the winter and we never got back to it. We started doing agility instead and you seemed to enjoy it much more. You used to prance across the dog walk and I could just imaging you singing “I’m the King of the Castle” Then you started coming up sore all the time and your lameness seemed to switch from leg to leg. I was mystified. Eventually, we had your spine x-rayed and got the devastating news that you had severe arthritis in your spine. That was in 1998. I decided to switch you to raw and not give you any more vaccinations. You loved your raw food and enjoyed eating again. You had never really liked kibble. I was willing to do anything if it would help you live longer. I thought you would be lucky if you lived until you were 8, but you fooled us all. You were a tough old guy. You didn’t love every dog, but you liked the girls. You loved every person and strangers were just friends you hadn’t met yet. You were a great traveling companion. We went north to Alaska, south to Texas and down the California coast. I couldn’t have asked for a better dog.
Godspeed Markus! You will be in my heart forever. I will never forget you!
