Betty was spayed and had her microchip put in last week, and tonight I noticed a marble like lump on her right shoulder. DH swears the chip was put in on her left, but it seems too coincidental.

Could that be it- a reaction? I left a message at the vet, but would like to avoid an appt. if I can!

Thanks!

I thought chips were put in between the shoulder blades, but I could be wrong. I would get it checked out.

Yes, I also thought they are put in between the shoulder blades. I would definately keep an close eye on it and follow up with your vet.

I would ask the vet if they gave her any shots in her shoulder, either vaccines or even something to put her under. When I had Tyson neutered, he had a marble sized lump on his rear leg. It turns out he had his rabies vaccine there and it was a reaction to it. I confirmed the location of the shot with the vet. It went away on its on. Good luck!

I agree, the typical/standard place for a microchip is between the shoulder blades. Like others have mentioned, did she have any vaccines while there. Another possibility would be if they gave her an injection of an antibiotic, she could be having a slight reaction to that.

Thanks for the replies! I gave her a little benedryl with her dinner last night in case it was a little bug bite or shot reaction, but it's still there. I also thought maybe the cat got her with a claw- Betty's been getting a little too close to her. It's really weird- I can roll it around with my fingers and it doesn't feel like it's attached to anything b/c it moves so much. It must not hurt b/c she doesn't even notice me messing with it.

Maybe a calcium deposit? The vet should be calling me back in the morning.

I was reading over the replies again and realized that she also had her rabies vac. I may be grasping at straws, but I really don't want to go to the vet (although we will if we need to ;) )

Well, Guinness when he was at his sickest had a shot of penecillin, and the vet told us it could be there for MONTHS. I didn't really notice it at first but it seemed to get bigger! I talked with my wife about it and she assured me the vet said it was normal. after about a month now, it is finally almost gone :) Sure makes you worry though!

After one of Abbi's vaccinations, she had a grape-sized lump at the injection site for almost 2 weeks. Of course, being the paranoid parent that I am, I took her back to the vet just for them to look at it, smile at me like I'm crazy, and tell me that it was just a reaction from the shot.

I hope that everything is fine with Betty though!! Paws and fingers crossed for her!

Thanks again for the replies-

I talked to the vet this morning. The lump's where they gave her the rabies vac. They called it a "granunoma" or "granuloma?" Anyway, they said to give it a week or two to go away, and if not we can go in then. Whew!
