For the last 2 weeks, my dog has shown tenderness with her back paw , but at first I didnt think much of it as the problem just went away, so I figured she had a thorn in her paw.

But in the last several days when she gets up she doesnt want to put any weight on that back leg, but this problem gos away after she walks about 15 ft. If I take her outside she is perfectly fine and you would never think that she ever even limps. It almost seems like her leg falls asleep and she has to walk around to get it back to normal. I plan on taking her to the vet.

She is almost 5 year old, healthy female boxer.

Any opinions? thanks

I had a similar issue with my 4 year old, when he was 2. We took him everywhere looking for answerrs, finally they found he had 2 torn ligaments in his knee and needed surgery. I am not trying to scare you, but if the trouble persists, I would get it checked by a specialist.

I think it sounds like a torn acl. My girls also only limped occasionally and mostly after getting up. ALS sh never whinned or showed other signs of pain. It turned out to be a torn acl. After the surgery I saw that she was much more active. Younger. Definately sometime worth checking as it will not heal on its own.

That sounds just like what Roxy did. It started when she was boxer burning around the house. She didn't really do anything to damage it. She just started limping. She would limp really bad when she got up, and after she was up for a few minutes, she would almost stop. It went away after a couple of days and everything was fine. About a month later, it started all over again with no known cause. It lasted a few days and then got better. I thought she broke something or tore something. I called the vet and he said to watch her and see if it gets worse. It happened once more when we got Buster and they were boxer burning in the backyard. Same thing, few days and it got better. The only thing I can think of is she keeps pulling a muscle, because if she had torn something, she wouldn't have gotten better in two or three days. It never hurt when I felt her leg or her joints. Still don't know for sure.

The limping can come and go if it a partial tear rather than complete. also you will not be able to feel anything when manipulating the leg.

How is Josi? Cooper is a rescue that is undergoing chemo andalso has an enlarged heart. He is unbeliesbly sweet. He is actually at my brothers now because it is next to impossible to keep him quiet at my house. My SIL is so in love. It is somewhat tragic because I am not sure Cooper is doing well.

Believe it or not, Josi is doing great! Last echo and holter about 3 months ago revealed that her heart appears stronger now then when she was first diagnosed and while MCs keep popping up here and there, the dr's still feel that it is acting mostly benignly. I can not believe she will be 9 in Feb., but she still acts like my spoiled little puppy.
Are you fostering Cooper or did you adopt him? I am sure he knows how blessed he is that you brought him into your family, that is probably why you can't keep him quiet because he is sooooo excited. How are you and the rest of your clan doing? Are you ever able to get a christmas photo with all of them in it?
