I have the Canon X1i and love it!

I have two IS lenses: one is the 18-55 mm kit lens, and the second is the 15-250 mm lens I purchased. I would have loved to purchased the higher priced lenses, but it just wasn't in my budget. Anyway, I am very satisified with the lenses I have. I take a LOT of pictures Zeus running, etc., and found the pictures come out best set at "TV" mode and 1/800. I also purchased an external flash, filter, and hood.

Lens options...

You don't have to go with a Cannon lens... Sigma is excellent and significantly cheaper!

Santa brought me an 18-200 lens for Christmas so Roxy is almost fed up with being my test subject!

Definitely worth the splurge!

Mmm. I have a copy of Sigma's 18-200mm lens (not the latest IS version) and would remark that it is - as designed to be - a useful sort of "do it all" lens. But like any do-it-all, it's a jack of all trades and master of none ;)

I have barely used it in the past 3-4 years, for the reason that it is not useful for low light photos (FAR too slow) and light in the UK isn't the best. I would say that it is useful for hiking/landscape photos in good light conditions, when you want variable range but really don't want anything heavy or bulky to carry around. And also as a "tourist" lens around cities, when you don't want to be carrying around multiple lenses, but aren't sure of what range you're really going to want.

For action photos though - it is not the right tool for anything other than an average result (and even that reliant on light conditions being good).
