Laser Light Etiquette?

Both of my boxers L-O-V-E playing with the laser light. As soon as you pull out the light Elvis goes NUTS and becomes obsessed with the darn thing. He will do whatever it takes to get the light & will hunt for it long after it has been put away. However, whenever you point the light on any part of someone's body (I first experimented on my husband -hee hee) Elvis politely and patiently waits for the light to get off of the person and then goes back into attack mode.

I was wondering if anyone else's boxer does this? My little girl will pounce all over you and could care less where it is or what gets destroyed in the process. I just thought it was awfully funny (& thoughtful) of Elvis.

My other dog, a mutt named Hoover, absolutely loves the laser light also. He doesn't have any ettiquette, though, where it's concerned. Everything that the light lands on is fair game - especially DH's toes. LOL

Rambo is exactly like Elvis! He goes absolutely bonkers for the laser light, and even knows where we keep it. The second my hand goes in that drawer he get into his "attack the laser" mode and starts looking for it. Rambo get very obsessed with chasing the laser, and often pounces on the light and tries to catch it with his mouth. Like you, I always try to put the light on my husband (hee hee hee), hoping that Rambo will attack the light on his leg, foot, stomach, just like he does when it is on the floor or wall. Much to my dissappointment, he will not touch the laser when it is on daddy. As you said, he just politely waits until the light moves back to the floor.

I've also tried to put the light on our other dog (a lab) to see if Rambo will get it on him. I know...I'm an evil mommy! But, low and behold, he won't chase it while it is on Vegas either. All in all, I guess it is better that they know their boundries. But, I would just love to see him pounce on daddy like he does on the floor!

Finlay is a nut the first and only time he has seen a laser pointing he ended up scratching my friends hardwood floors by "digging" for the laser. He also knocked all the crap off the coffee table.

Needless to say Finlay and his prey/toy drive will not be playing with a laser pointer again.

I used to have one of those. ABBY loved that thing and would chase the little red dot endlessly. I would get her to chasing it and then suddenly click it off. She would make some of funniest expressions and noises trying to find where it went to how it could just vanish. Unfortunately, one night I went to bed and forgot to put it away, and you all know what can happen to things when you have a Boxer living with you

Laila loves the laser light...she hears my son shake the chain its on and she knows what is coming...she is hysterical chasing it!! she also will not jump after it if it is shining on a person...it has to be on the ground for her to want to chase it...it is so funny that she will search for it a while after we put it away...we do have to limit her because she will be out of breath and will still want to run after it!! Silly boxers....Barbara

We keep our laser pointer in a basket with all the remotes. You can't get a remote without Bayleigh going into "chase the dot" mode! DH plays with the laser pointer every night. If he doesn't get it out, she will stand in front of the tv and bark at him.

Bayleigh will not attack the dot if it is on someone. The cat, however, likes to play with the laser. She will attack the dot anywhere!

LOL MAMA'S BOYS - I pointed it on my husbands rear-end while he was bending over hoping Elvis would go in for the kill- but like you I was disappointed but happy that he knew boundaries - we can train that out of them right? Elvis also won't get the dot while on other animals either - even my cat - not sure how I know this -ha ha!

It really is neat that they are so aggressive toward the laser but mind their manners and are so careful when it is on someone- boxers truly are amazing!

By the way I keep seeing the acronym DH for husband - can't figure that one out - have a few ideas but I'm sure that's not what it really means...hee hee.

Someone please enlighten me. Thanks!

Cosworth is pretty good about not killing people with little red dots on them. Although it is pretty funny when he'll run up to complete strangers at the dog park, wiggle furiously, then stare at the ground...

Although on the other side of laser etiquette, there is a dog that used to go to the same dog park as me who would have a nervous break down if he saw the light. He'd dig holes, knock things over, and generally become very, very upset looking for the thing. It's best not to play with the light when that dog is around.
