I am at work and just received a call that Sally has been taken out of day camp and put into a kennel until I can pick her up. Apparently, she became very aggressive towards another dog (little bit smaller than her) and attacked this dog. This dog has had to go to the vet for stitches. Sally is very sociable and playful. She has never displayed this type of behavior before. Plus, she has been going to dog parks and day camp since Sept.
Has anyone else experienced something like this? I am worried as to why she would do this and am embarrassed as well.
Any advice/comments will be appreciated.
Thanks-
Mary

Did they see which dog was agressive first? Maybe it was the other dog that went after Sally. I would ask them if they saw exactly what happened or if they just assumed Sally started it since she was the bigger of the two. If the other dog became agressive first, Sally may have just been protecting herself. I'd get all the details before I jumped to conclusions. Keep us posted as to what they say happened. :)

Agree, I would get all the details when you pick Sally up. Talk to the person(s) who were in the room when this happened.

Good Luck!

Last evening I got the info on what happened...Sally has a "boyfriend" at day camp. Archie and Sally are very close and play (pretty much) exclusively when they are there. Apparently, another female puppy (a little smaller than Sally) went up to Archie. Sally saw this and went after the other female dog attacked her and bit her in the ear (causing the pup to have to get stitches). I was also told that this dog is very nosey and high strung. The day camp is not concerned over Sally's actions; but I still feel bad that this happened and am a bit taken aback with how Sally reacted. I have noticed her being more protective over her toys and me- the last few weeks. I guess this protectiveness is being extended to her favorite playmate.
Since I have not had a Boxer prior to Sal; can anyone tell me if this is a normal stage?
Thanks!
Mary

Sounds like guarding behavior and it can be a serious behavior problem. You need to nip this in the bud. Does she guard her food bowl?

No, not at all. The only thing close is she likes to play keep away. We go to the dog park or day camp (almost daily) and she plays with all sorts of other dogs and has never "guarded" before.
