Hello all! I am KDWS. I previously raised and loved an Old English Mastiff. It took me almost two years to work through his death. About six months ago I started looking to adopt a boxer. I saw a white boxer named Ozzie. I fell in love with him. I had looked at over ten dogs and visited four but i knew Ozzie was the one for me. I was told he was given up for adoption because he growled and bit. That dog was as gentle as the day is long! THe first day we brought him home he got past my husband and ran out into the yard...we have a huge yard and live on a quiet street so he was in no danger. He did it again a couple days later. I just thought it was getting uesd to the new environment. He did not run he seemed to be exploring. We fed him on our screened in porch. One morning my husband tokk him out to the porch gave him his food walked int hte house to get his water and by the time my husband got back Ozzie had jumped through the screen and off the porch. THis was at 6 am in the dark. We both ran out looking for him in our cars. We looked for two hours. I then got the call every pet owner dreads. HE had been hit by a car and killed. Turns out the previous owners did not get rid of him because he growled or beacause he bit...they got rid of him because he ran! If only we would have been told the truth. I was am devestated. I loved having a dog back in the house. I am still sad but have started to look again for a boxer to adopt. I look to this board for hints and advice....training tips, etc.

It is just so sad...and my family god love them are just not into pets and have no understanding of my relationship with them. My mother said that Ozzie was just a good friend that I would miss. I told her Ozzie was my baby!! and I was devestated! She suggested I needed therapy! :) Like I said does not get it!
