Just want to brag

As I read the forums and concerns I just wanted to brag about Dixie and our new and first child. Dixie seemed to know before we did that my wife was expecting, she became very protective of my wife and would fret and cry and bark if I got anywhere near my wife. When we brought the baby home she was a little scared of her and did not know what to think or where she would fit in. My wife and I would take turns, one would hold the baby and the other held the 80 lb baby. My dog still loves to sit on my lap while I watch TV. Dixie is great with the baby. She is very protective and will stand over her when she is crawling around. The only trouble we have had is that Dixie is facinated with baby toys. Our baby girls is starting to walk now so this is a new chapter in their relationsship. Hopefully all will continue well.

First congrats on your new baby. appicon Sounds like Dixie is the real mother hen or should I say boxer. That's very interesting about her knowing that there was something different about your wife in the early stages of her pregnancy. We don't give our fur friends enough credit. They are truly amazing. Sounds like your little girl will have a forever guardian.

The bond between a boxer and children is amazing. I have two boys, my oldest was 8 (now 16) when we got our first boxer and they have a special bond. He loves her so much and she loves him. My youngest was 9 (now 10) when we got our newest boxer baby (who is 5 mo.). When he comes home from school the first thing he does is play with Buster. In the morning, it is hard for me to get him to get ready for school because all he wants to do is play with Buster. He loves him dearly, and Buster loves him too! The minute my son walks in the door Buster is running full speed to him. I truely believe every child needs a dog. They learn so much from one another and it is truely a gift to watch them grow up together.

Amen to that! I grew up with a beagle-lab mix and it was great. She had the attitude of a boxer- I could do anything I wanted to her, she didn't mind, and if someone tried to "harm" me in her eyes, watch out!

I don't think that you'll ever have to worry about your daughter ever coming to harm while Dixie is around. I can almost guarantee that your daughter will thank you for having Dixie around too. Congrats on your baby girl and spoil Dixie for me, she sounds like a wonderful dog.
