For what it's worth - here's my opinion: Don't use the newspaper...it's outdated and there arre much better remedies for that problem! First, does you dog know how to sit on command? Teach that and reward with a treat. Whenever you give your pup a treat, make him sit FIRST. When this is down, ask a friend to come over and help you. Place a bag/bowl of treats outside the door and ask your pal to pick one up, & ring the bell. When you answer the door, make sure pup can't get out, but comes with you. If he jumps, shake him firmly by the scruff and use a low voice to say "no" very firmly. Praise him when he stops. Then, let your friend in and repeat. WHen pup stops jumping, have the friend show off the treat and tell pup to sit. Repeat several times, day after day. I think that pup will figure out that when someone comes over, he needs to sit. It takes time and consistency but is well worth it.
Try some Uncle Matty training videos - they are great!
