The other day I had some guys come over to do some work in my backyard. One of the guys brought there kid with him. The kid was about 5 or 6 yrs old and was some what of a Brat. For example the kid picked up a stick and started swinging it at me. When I showed them the backyard (Drago was in the house) the kid went up to the sliding glass door and was somewhat teasing Drago. Drago went NUTS! He started pouncing against the sliding glass door and growling and barking. He did not like the people in the backyard. Now the question I have is should I be worried about bringing Drago around children? He is very protective of my House, But when someone comes in that he knows he goes crazy and gets all happy and starts doing the kidney bean. Does anyone know what this could be a sign of? Protective or violent? Thanks for any input. Happy New Year!!

I am not sure why but my boxer does the same thing at the sliding door , its weird she will lung at it , even if its people she knows ?? so I dont know she has never hurt anyone and once the door was open she was fine she has even done it to me.

It sounds to me like protection. She was not introduced to strangers that showed up in her yard. Very normal behavior. Boxers are natural watch dogs.

The swinging stick probally put her over the top. Dogs either think your play really hard or that the person means to hurt.

I know Daisy doesn't like many men... She growls at them... I had some friends over one night and she about ate one of the guys that was over... She is very protective.

Austin hates it when anyone looks at him thru the glass door. Especially the kid across the street, but he deserves it. When he was younger he would tease Aus thru the door and I guess Aus remembers!

Protective

My usually laid back guy doesn't like it when there are strangers in the yard if he feels they are a threat to my house...even when I am not home. A couple of months ago there were a bunch of guys doing concrete work around my house while I was at work. One of the guys walked a little to close to the window and Capone jumped at him and shattered the window foolicon. I guess he is my great protector. lovicon

Actually, I'd put more money on frustration than either agression or protection. Not many dogs that wouldn't react that way to a strange kid teasing them through the glass. Continued instances would probably lead to agression though - so the best thing is to socialise your dog as much as possible with (nice) kids and don't let other people's little monsters tease your dog ;)

LOL...I will agree on that one. I would have told the man to get his kid under control or I would have found someone else to do the work. See there is a good use for a shock collar. lol

BRANDY does this on our glass door as well. if we put her outside when we go to work or out for the day and she thinks she should go or doesn't want us to go without her she will pounce on the door. when we have had the accountant over to do our taxes we put the dogs outside and she does the same thing - i';ve always put it down to her letting us know she's mad about being put outside when she just wants to say hello or come with us.

in the last 2 months tigger has been having funny turns and so i've taken him to the vets and then gone to work or taken him to work with me (i can't take both unfortunately and tigger just sleeps next to me because he's ill) anyway i put brandy outside and she has bounced on the door barking at me as if to say hey if he's going with you i want to as well it breaks my heart to leave her alone she misses the little man so much but i can't always stay home when he isn't well.

i've never thought she was being aggressive or protective just letting us know she's not happy with that door being closed.
