My bruno is a big ball of energy. He has a few puppy friends his age. The day goes so much better when he gets to run around and play with them. Then he is more calm and relaxed when company comes by. The thing is that that only happens maybe 2-3 times a week. I have a friend that doesn't live near me but but tells me the wonders of having 2 boxers. Said that they just burn each others up in half the time as they do with other dogs. I had already made my mind up that i was getting another puppy in the spring when it gets nice out, but i was blessed with a miracle. One of bruno's littermates, which was originally staying with the breeder as a family pet, is now up for adoption by the breeder. I was so happy because of the fact she is everything i wanted in my next puppy. Female and a reverse brindle. I just wanted to express my joy here and ask for some advise about having 2 boxers. What are some of the advantages and disadvantages? I love that they are the same age so they can always be on the same food. What else should i expect or watch out for?

One or Two?

Having 2 dogs is wonderful but it does have its drawbacks, they play with each other and hardly ever come over and ask you to play with them means you can concentrate on other things but means much more mess. They love walks with each other however, its much trickier to manage them both on the leads at the same time. Double the amount of poo in the garden, food in the cupboard, love in your heart and patience needed. I would definitely recommend it, I wouldn't be without either of my dogs now because they love each other and I love them

I would definately recommend having 2! They definately keep eachother company, and exercised (after all, there is no way WE can play w/ a boxer like a Boxer can play w/ a Boxer! ) However what i would be concerned w/ is that your pup is still young. Training 2 puppies, especially ones of the same age, can be quite a challenge. (if you've got one thats too smart for his own good, just think what 2 masterminds can come up with  ) We waited to get our second boxer. Cassius was 1.5 when we got Nikki, he was well trained, and Nikki learned quite a bit from him. You must make sure you have time for 2, because they do need their own time with you too, and of course there are double the bills (food, vet, toys, boarding, etc..).

In anycase, i'd weigh out the good and the bad. Make sure you've really got time for the 2. Try not to be swayed by the new pup sitting w/in arms reach... I know it can definately be a hard decision since the possibilities of getting your "perfect female" could be an easy reality. Best of luck w/ your deciscion. For us, 2 was the right choice at the right time.

They both are 6 months as of last week. They both are crate trained and housebroken. I would expect accidents from the new edition since she is adjusting to a new place. There both big babies Bruno is 62 #'s and Didi is 45 #'s so i am expecting some things to be knocke over when the play inside. Thanks for the advise so far! I am getting her in about 10 days so i will have many pics up.

twice the "fun"

When Reznor was 15 months, we adopted Sugar who was about 3(?) at the time. Before the addition of Sugar, it seemed that no matter what we did, Reznor NEVER got tired! For example, my husband would take him on the morning walk and when I got home we would either go for a VERY long walk or to the dog park. The only thing that made him tired was going to daycare where I was told that he played all day and wouldn't let the other dogs rest! I would also play w/ him in the backyard. Nothing made him tired.
The addition of another Boxer made all of the difference. Instead of us telling him when it was time to play, etc., now they are basically on their own schedule. When they feel like playing, they play. When they want to rest, they rest and so on.
Like someone else mentioned, the only problem (other than twice the expense!) is with training. Although Reznor is "trained" he is very bratty and dominant and sometimes can't hear you. Sugar learned a few bad habits from him that we are still working on w/ them both. The other main problem is the walks. It is difficult for me to control both of them when something exciting crosses their path, because together, they weigh as much as I do but they are twice as strong! Hope that things work out for you.

Super Boo

Completely Boxer Crazy
I think you should go for it. It was better having an older one (Boo was 1 1/2 ) when we got Skye, but they grow up so quickly anyway. I am so happy that they have each other--they play all the time. Both, however, have very different personalities and need individual attention--so don't worry about feeling left out. It is twice the expense and twice the poop, but the rewards are endless.

I say go for it !! We have 4 here ,Dozer & Cissy are littermates-2 years old. Yes your expenses go up,the food goes up, the vet visits are more......
But imho, I wouldn't have it any other way. They keep each other occupied, though Dozer does seem to get into his fair share of mischief :),I have 4 times the love and affection of a wonderful breed and since I'm not working I'm able to be with them pretty much all the time. We carve out individual time for each one, constantly working that nobody forgets their manners and enjoy all the crazy antics that only Boxers can provide :) I honestly can't picture not having all 4 here.
Congratulations on the new addition!!

NOT the same LITTER!!!!!!

Two boxers is wonderful!!! My little one has taken the edge off of my rescue's separation anxiety however it has been my experience with another breed (germanshepards) that when you get two puppys from the same litter that they are more inclined to pack like behavior and are much harder to train!!! I would think twice before adopting the litter mate! More money, poop, attention, work yes but two boxers are well worth it!!! How about an older allready trained rescue?? best of luck with your decision and keep us updated!!!! Tyson and Ali's mom

Age Matters

How old are they?? It seems to me that when you put two young puppies together they are more inclined to play than listen and when you separate them they are inclined to cry and search the other one out instead of learn commands. I think that two young puppies is best left to an EXPERIENCED trainer or dog handler. On that note I should say that I am neither and I can only speak from limited experience. I can say that left to their own devices two boxers have the potential to drive you crazy!! evilicon They also have the potential to make you question how you ever lived without them! There are many things tothink about BUT> > > how can yu say no to a eautiful boxer baby with big boxer eyes?!? Lord knows I didn't and now I have two! Best of luck keep us updated!
