Not only does Trevor get irritated feet like a lot of the other boxers, but lately when he goes outside running, his nails are bleeding! It seems to be coming from the base of his nails, and not the ends. What could be causing this, and should I take him to a vet? It doesn't seem to be painful because he walks on them normally. I'm very perplexed! I hate to see my poor boy with bloody feet.

Not sure....

Poor Trevor, if it were me I'd take him to the vet. Hope his feet are feeling better soon.

bloody nails too!

My Jake has the same bloody nail thing along with the itchy paws!! I just noticed it about a week ago and have been watching. As with Trevor he walks normal and doesn't seem to be in pain but he does go at gnawing on them!!!

I plan to go to the vet as well and will let you know what I find out.

possible cause

I have no idea if this could have something to do with it, but we have hardwood floors, and Trevor sometimes gets too excited and ends up sliding around on the floor. I don't know if this might be bothering his nails so that when he runs outside it makes them bleed. WHO KNOWS??? I plan on finding out from the vet....

We took Bru to the vet yesterday for an ear infection and redness in his pads. The vet said the redness is due to allergies of somekind. The bleeding of the nails is due to him licking and chewing his feet. The vet gave him a shot of cortizone and some to take home to get his feet to stop itching and time to heal.

BTW- We are treating the ear infection with a medicated ear wash and some ointment. His ears seem to be clearing up already.
