Is there anything holistic I can give Lexie for her incontenence other than prescription meds? The vet tested her for a UTI and did bloodwork and says she has incontenence. She's been taking Proin 50 3 times a day for about 3 weeks. It is helping, I just worry about possible long term side effects. Is there something you could recommend?

Yes, you could try giving her fresh chopped parsley. It doesn't work in every case, but it does in a great many. It's a natural diuretic that helps incontinence by helping to ensure that the dog fully empties the bladder when she pees. Less left behind means less available for leaking later, and in many cases that's good enough to prevent leakage between normal toilet stops. No known side effects, so it's worth a try.

All that's needed is about a tablespoon of chopped fresh parsley added to her food daily.

so glad i saw this

so glad i saw this post!
moby is on antibiotics right now for what we THINK is a slight UTI. I am not convinced he isn't having some issues with a weak sphinter (sp?). i wonder if the parsley will work for him. it's pretty harmless so i think i will try it. the best part is........I have it growing in my garden. and, with this mild winter we've had so far........it's still nice and green...ready for picking.

Thank you for the parsley information! I am definitely going to try it. I've decided to take her off the Proin due to side effects.

Coriander-cumin

Hello

Our Gigi was also incontinent. Since the past year we have been giving her the following, which I believe has really helped:

Take 1 tsp each of coriander seeds and whole cumin seeds, and soak overnight in 150ml water.

The next morning, strain and give your baby the water.

We did this everyday fo 6 mnths and then on alternative days

My older male boxer has problems wetting the bed, just at night. My vet started him on Phenylpropanolamine after checking his urine and blood. They couldn't find anything wrong with him. I let him outside right before bedtime and I remove his water in the later evening. It's so frusterating! We have plastic mats on everything!
