Probiotics are always a good thing but should not be given at the same time the antibiotics are given. We gave Lucy probiotics in between antibiotic doses. We also gave her colostrum to help boost her immunity. I hope you can get the meds from your vet...if this is in fact what your pup has you will be amazed at how quickly they work.

I should have also noted that Lucy is on a raw diet. After her terrible bought with HUC her tummy cannot handle kibble. Any kibble immediately sets her off on a round of horrible consequences. I feed her Sojos Complete dehydrated raw as well as add raw meat to it.

Your story is almost identical to what our poor girl Audrey has been going through since we adopted her at 3 months of age (she's now a little over a year). The only difference is that Audrey was also diagnosed with Kidney Disease after battling the non-stop bladder infections. Our vets (General and Internal Medicine Specialist) diagnosed her with Boxer Colitis (HUC) without doing any invasive tests. She had all the classic symptoms. She would have blood in her stools no matter what we fed her. HUC is now thought to be caused by E. Coli and so there could be a link to the bladder infections. Like your girl, Audrey's UTI's would come back within two days after stopping an antibiotic. The only treatment for HUC as mentioned by other posters is a very strong antibiotic called Baytril and not only did this help with the HUC, but it was the only antibiotic that would get rid of the UTI's. It has to be used with caution in puppies but it's all that will work for Audrey. She actually has to be on it permanently now though because if we take her off of it, the loose stools with blood come back. We don't know of any other alternative to help her and since she has Kidney Disease, we have to ensure she has a good quality of life. We also put her on a home prepared diet of Ground Turkey and Sweet Potatoes plus supplements. It's a lot of work because she's a large dog but it's worth it as no other food would agree with her. I wish you all the best as I've been there and I know how frustrating it can be. You want nothing more than to help them and you feel so helpless.

Oh, Acidophilus specifically is supposed to fight E. Coli so we give that to Audrey along with Digestive Enzymes, CoQ10, L-Glutamine and Salmon Oil along with the regular supplements with her home-prepared diet.
