With a heavy heart and sore eyes, ...... I'm letting you know that our
beloved Jade crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on 01-09-2008.
I took her to the vet, Jan. 9th after she had not been eatting or drinking ANYTHING for 3 days straight and was lethargic, dehydrated and wasn't "right". I tried different meals to get her to eat....nothing! She was no longer interested in her favorite activities or fave foods.... and I knew something was wrong! We did the best we could to keep her drinking fluids even if it meant suckling on ice cubes, but she was besides herself.
So I took her to the vets office where they gave her a full physical exam. Her heart rate was a little fast but her temperature was below normal. They immediately took some blood
tests & the results showed that her blood levels were "off the charts". Jade was in severe Renal Failure. Toxins were starting to fill her body and she was vomiting bile and her poor empty stomach was making her uncomfortable and even more dehydrated. She was obviously miserable! Even the vets office said she looked depressed.... but I had hoped and prayed for the best.
While waiting for the exam to be over with... i sat there for a total of 3 hours contemplating on what to do next??? Jade was in agony and in discomfort. They wanted to hospitalize her and keep her under observation for at least 3 days. This would have been costly and time consuming.....they wanted to run some more tests and see how her kidneys would take after a series of kidney tests and see how her kidneys function and filter?? Xrays were not necessary since there was no obstruction. I could guarantee that! No grapes or bones or anything like that. *sniffles*
What to do ... What to do?? We've only had her for 6 months.
So I did process of eliminations of "decision making" and took care of the immediate needs...... I had her started on IV fluids and antiemetic injection (to help keep her stomach from vomiting more bile) and brought her home with me. Jade rested at home in the comfort of her favorite bed (one of several) in my crafts room where my computer is and she just rested- In complete comfort!!! She still wouldn't drink or eat... I did my best to encourage her. She was so weak she couldn't hold herself up or walk. She'd crumble and it was hard to watch, so I let her rest! She would flinch when touched and her body kept spasming....... *sighs*
Amazing what happens in just a few hours. Even after the dr. gave her fluids at the vets office.
She just wanted to rest...... I just held her and held her and cried! I could see it in her eyes that it might be "time".
My husband finally came home from work and after discussing as a family what was realistic and rational for Jade....we made the heart-wrenching decision to have her be put down. It was time...... Jade told us it was time. No more tests...... no more
dehydrating in her already critical condition.....just to go in comfort with the memories of being happy with us!
Jade- a beautiful Fawn Boxer/German Shephard was rescued by us at a Boxer Rescue (BRLA; CA.) on 7-01-07 and we gave her a second chance. We gave her a home! A home filled with laughter, play time, toys and trips to PetSmart, comfort, warmth, a soft bed, a nightcap every night indoors, AND a chance to play "Santa Paws" on Christmas of '07! We visited BRLA (where she was rescued) and we dropped of Dog Food, treats & Toys for the others awaiting a home of their own. That was a great trip!!
She had a great companion Jester who adored her!
She crossed over the Rainbow Bridge........ and is so dearly missed! We
love you Girl!
