I hate ticks.

I think ticks are gross and disgusting. Today Mindy, Buffy (parents' small senior dog), my mom and I went to the park. We decided to go off the beaten trail to do some birdwatching and it was actually a good day, we spotted two new kinds of birds. Unfortunately when we got home, both dogs had a tick, I think a deer tick, on them. I thought tick season was over!!! Both got a treatment of Frontline immediately. Lucky for them b/c now I am going insane thinking I have one (or more). I have to go take a shower!!!

Ticks were nasty this year. The dogs haven't had any attach to them but a few weeks ago Abbie was laying on the floor and I saw a black spot crawling around on her head. I had to investigate and sure enough, it was a tick. I feed a lot of cats outside and am always pulling ticks off of them. My inside cat had two this summer. How an inside cat gets ticks I am not sure but she had them. I even had one this summer on my thigh, I am guessing I got it at camp.

They are nasty buggers and this year seemed to be the worst year for them around here.

I honestly thought tick season would be over by now, that is why I didn't treat Mindy when her month was up a week or so ago. I do hike with her in the woods alot, so I like to keep her treated in the summer. The problem Mindy had when she came to me (and it almost killed her), Babesia, is sometimes tick-borne, so needless to say, I was petrified thinking should could contract another tick-borne illness. Even now, I am constantly checking her and going over her with the flea comb.

I cannot believe the amount of ticks that we have pulled of Mason and Penny in the past two weeks. I think there has been more than the entire season!

I am thinking that since it is unusally warm that a nest or something has hatched in our yard. I hope that they are gone soon since ticks totally gross me out!
