Hurt her leg

Well, I think my Roxy girl has done something to her leg. If I had to guess, she did it jumping off my bed (our bed sits rather high). She is having a hard time walking on that leg. My questions is, do I give it a day or two or take her immediately to the vet. I have felt and massaged her leg all the way up and all the way down to the paw. She does not scream in pain or pull away, so I can't tell where it is. I have no problems spending money on a vet bill, I just don't want to take her and stress her out if unnecessary right away. She does get stressed going to the vet. What do you think?

She sounds a lot like Tyson. He's hurt his leg more times than I can remember. I have a two-tiered back yard so he loves to jump from the top to the bottom, and he's not always graceful at it. ;) He also gets very stressed out at the vet, so I avoid the vet if I can. If she let you feel her leg and didn't scream in pain, I would probably watch it for a day or so to see if it gets better. If she was in obvious pain when you were touching her leg, that's when I would bring her to the vet. Good luck!

I am sorry to hear that Roxy hurt her leg...was it her front or back one? I would not rush to the vet yet, keep a watchful eye over it and as long as she is not in pain and you don't notice swelling/pain/or increased lameness give her a day or two of rest to heal. I would try to keep her calm and not much exercise during this time. Please let us know how she is doing. Josi says get better soon Miss Roxy:)

Thank you members for your input. It was her front leg she hurt. She can barely put weight on it. She is resting and I gave her a baby asprin to try to help with pain and swelling if there is any (vet recommended this last time she hurt a leg). I think I will give it a day or two and see how she progresses. If she is not better by Friday or Saturday, I will contact the vet. I just makes me so sad to see her hurt. I guess she'll have to sleep in her crate tonight instead of with me which she is NOT going to like.

Well, I couldn't hold off. I called the vet first thing this morning. I was afraid she had done some damage to her shoulder joint. Lucily, they feel it is a soft tissue injury and gave me an anti inflammatory for her. It's hard to see them get older. They don't realize they can't do some of the things they used to (kind of like me!) I'm just glad it isn't a severe injury.

Glad to hear Roxy's injury was nothing too serious and hopefully with the meds and some rest she will be as good as new in no time. I know the feeling about them continuing to jump around like when they were puppies. Our bed is pretty high off the ground and with Josi's double tplo'd legs she still would jump on and off up until a few weeks ago. Please let us know how she is doing:)

Well, I was truely amazed. The vet gave me Previcox for her, which is an anti-inflamatory and analgesic and prescribed a lot for dogs with osteoarthritis. Within 2 HOURS she was playing with Buster with only a slight limp. He gave me five tablets to give her, one daily for 5 days. She is doing awesome. I am inclined to believe maybe it is arthritis and was irritated by her jumping off the bed. I purchased some Glucosamine with MSM and creatine and antioxidents to start giving her. Thank you so much for asking how she was doing, it is nice to know someone else cares about their babies as much as we do. :)

Glad to hear she is OK. These leg issues seem to come up quit abit. Quess it's necessary to get used to this type of thing. They seem to believe they can fly.

Well it sounds like Roxy and mommy are on the road to recovery:) So glad to hear she was back to playing and her old self within hours of the medicine. I think you will be very pleased with the glucosomine/chrondrotin supplement...it has done wonders for Josi's legs and she loves the taste of the granules when we add a little water to it, it makes gravy on her food. Please keep us updated on how she is doing...

What kind do you buy? I bought some chewables. They look like liver treats. They are kind of expensive, which is okay, but maybe I could find something she likes that is a bit less expensive. But, I will use whatever it takes to help her feel good. :)
