I know my wife would kill me even though she reads this board at her work, but what would I have to do/ expect in being a boxer foster parent?? We have a good size fenced back yard and someone is almost always home,My only worry is not letting them go.....

Rob--

Way to go! Fostering is a great way to help out. I wish my work schedule allowed me to be home enough for it.

You might want to post this question to the Boxer Rescue forum.

My advice would be to find a rescue organization that is affiliated with the American Boxer Rescue Association (ABRA). You might check out these sites:

Good luck!

I've never fostered, so I really don't know. I know Cindy had a little brindle girl for a weekend. She might tell you more.

I agree that the "downfall" would be to let them go after their stay.

I know I would get attached real quick!!

I have my first foster dog in my home right now. I know I will cry when I say good-bye but it will be so worth it. You would not believe some of the sad little thing the rescue gets in and they just want someone to love them. Fostering in my group means to care and love the dog as well as try to teach it basic commands and manners so they are more adoptable. They cover all medical expenses I pay for food. Do you have a rescue group in your area? you can go to http://members.aol.com/Usabox/ and they have rescues listed by areas. Contact them and they will give you all the details. Good Luck!

Your foster is Remmy?
Our male is Remy and I've never heard that name before.

Yes We call him Remmy but it is short for Remington. Is your Remy short for something or does it stand on its own. I love hearing all the different dog names.

Each rescue has a guide line that they want in their foster homes. I think you will be asked to observe and keep notes on your foster. See how they do in different situations. Its horrible lettting them go but many rescues dont have enough foster homes and this is a huge part of rescue.YOU are doing a wonderful service by helping out in this way. Let us know what you find out. cindy

Fostering is the greatest thing you can do for a rescue..you get soooo much satisfaction out of it you can't even imagine. The idea of saving all those lives is the greatest. I have fostered alot of boxers and it is hard to let them go but you know what...the knowledge that they are going to great homes helps me to let them go. I work with Second Chance boxer Rescue ( www.secondchanceboxer.com ) and they are a great group of people and have a wonderful network. If you get with the right group it will be a wonderful experience!!! We have an email group for all the volunteers and adoptees to keep in touch with each other and ask questions..its the best...Keep us posted as to what you decide and how it goes if you do choose to foster. Feel free to email me any questions hopefully I can help or at least send you in the right direction!!
Good Luck!
