Deacon is now on kibble good kibble. And his poo is solid so i know it is not because he can not hold it because of an upset tummy.

He gets fed 2 times a day morning at 7am with 3 cups of water after he goes pee and poo for 30 minutes. Then he goes out at 2pm and gets another 3 cups of water before my girlfriend leaves. Then he goes out at 6pm when i get home and gets fed and another 3 cups of water at 8pm. Then he goes out usually at midnight. Well he still pees and poo in the house when we both leave together.

Today i got home at 6pm gave him 3 cups of water and his food. then we put him in his room not the cage since we were gone for no more than 10 minutes we come back and he peed and poo all over the room. I am not sure what to do. I am on the verge of saying he will never get to be out of the cage when we are gone if he keeps this up. My girlfriend says it is ok it takes time. We have been trying this method for 6 months now and nothing is working.

Any suggestion would be great.

he is 1 year and a month and we live on the 3rd floor so if we do catch him peeing we can not pick him up to go outside. so we let him finish since he will run and pee in the house.

Do you not take him out after he eats? My dogs always go potty right after feeding time, and they really need to go. You might try taking him out right after he eats instead of putting him in his room. If you read on crate training, it says to take them out after feeding, or the sites I have read do anyway. Some suggest waiting a few minutes, but mine always need to go after they are finished. Also, why are you limiting the water? Do you not just keep fresh water out for him? I could see putting it away a bit before bed, but dogs need fresh water for them when they are thirsty, and it may not be on your schedule. If they are crated, you may not want it in the crate, but other than that I would leave it out. Just my opinion though. Good luck! :)

That sounds like a lot of water? And as the other poster said, my dogs, even now, pretty much go within a few minutes of eating. Sometimes you just have to tweak the feeding/relieving schedule. If you left a bowl of water out for him perhaps he would drink less at mealtime? Also, I am careful about too much water at mealtime, particularly with kibble. I actually remove the water bowls after they eat for an hour. Good luck

Trainning

My Major is 3 months and he is trainned to go outside but i had to take him out every half hour to every hour and i feed him 3 times a day and right after every feeding he goes for his pee and poop. I do leave water out all day for him to drink when he needs. He never does his jobs in his crate. But as u say u live 3 floors up and ya it would be hard to train him my suggestion is u might wanna try pee pads for him to train on .... good luck !!

well we take him out then let him eat. He does not want to eat before he goes out to the bathroom. so that is why we take him out he comes in the he eats and drinks water, then we take him out again later on in the day.

We limit the water because ever since he was 4 months we leave fresh water out for him he will drink as much water as he can until he pukes it up. so we had to limit it because he does it every time. even when i tell him to slow down he stops for 30 seconds then goes back to gulping the water and then he will not try to eat his food until hours later and we do not free feed so we take away the food.

So i am at a loss. The pee pee pads i do not want to to do. I did that at my old place when we lived 30 floors up. It was too much for us.

I would try taking him out before and after he eats. Rolen will sometimes have to go out before he eats, but then we always let him out after he eats. The older he's gotten, we don't have to let him out immediately after he eats. Do you leave him before he has a chance to relieve himself after he eats? We will time it, so Rolen has a chance to pee and poop before he goes into his crate!

before we leave the house we take him out. Now it if it one of us leaving like my girlfriend in the afternoon she will just put him in his room to go out. IF it is both of us we need to put him in the cage because like clock work even though we took him out he will pee and poo in the room

I feel for you. Our boy was a particularly stubborn pooper when left him alone in the house, too, until we started a strict regime of standing with him outside when it was time to go potty and waiting, come rain or shine until he had done his business. We also started repeating word "busy" as soon as he would start peeing or pooing and very quickly he started to associate this with going to the toilet. If he didn't seem to need to go we'd wait half an hour and do the same again. Immediately after a success we'd give him a treat, lots of praises and make a mega fuss about his bowel movements. He very quickly learned that pooing inside meant we'd ignore him and pooing outside meant crazy fun. It only took a couple of weeks for him to virtually have no accidents while we were away.

Best of luck.

thanks. I will take a treat with me. I used to do this but i stopped once he was able to hold it more until we went out. maybe this is that little extra kick to push this house training to completion.

Parka gave great advice. Treats are associated with good behavior.
I think that the water is part of the issue. Three cups of water with food seems like a lot of water. Since water helps to keep the system moving it seems that he is almost forced to eliminate quickly after eating. Perhaps you could space out the water with a cup or so at a time that way Deacon could learn to meet his own needs and not drink an entire bowl at one time.
Do you think that Deacon could use a little more playtime? Just like kids they will do anything to get attention, good or bad. Extra attention (treats and praise) to the good and little or no attention to the bad may help.
