Honest Kitchen?

I am currently feeding Canidae and plan to continue doing so. I like to spice up the meals for the pups and I like to mix in Evangers canned (100% meat varieties)

I have been looking at the Honest Kitchen foods and was wondering if it would be beneficial to mix some of that in with the Canidae or would it be a waste? I did feed RAW but I was having a hard time finding a variety so I stopped. With 3 dogs, I would probbaly go broke trying to feed RAW now. I was thinking about Verve from Honest Kitchen, just a little mixed in with the Canidae. Worth it or waste?

Thanks

Possibly worth while (though I'd have picked one of the other THH products than Verve - if you're feeding kibble, there's no need for more grains).

Having said it though, the only particular benefit I see in adding this to your dog's diet is that it is a form of food that is not dehydrated (when fed) and is less processed than kibble. You could equally achieve that by just adding some meat (which, IMO, would be more beneficial than more grains or vegetables).

Thanks GMAC, I was hoping you would answer. I am not real sure why I was looking into Verve...

Like I said, I do supplement with Evangers 100% meat canned. I think I will skip the Honest Kitchen. It was just a thought I had.

I do sometimes give them a chicken leg or whatever I find in the freezer but it isn't a regular thing. After warm weather comes I will be getting more tripe and freezing that. I just can't cut it up in the house and it is too cold outside to do it.

Is canned tripe worth buying? I thought of going that route too but thought maybe it would be too processed to do much good. Maybe it would be better than nothing though?

Also, on the tripe, what would be the best canned brand to go with? Solid Gold or Tripett? I see they are all 5 starts but the Solid Gold has more ingredients than the Tripett, which is the best given what I already feed. I also supplement with Missing Link or Seameal (I rotate them, currently on Seameal)

Yes, canned tripe is worth feeding. Of the two, I'd go with the Tripett - because it has less ingredients. Feeding canned tripe is about giving the dog the wonder-food that is tripe, not padding it out with potatoes ;) If your dogs are consuming kibble as the main part of their diet, they're really not short on carbohydrates. IMO it's better to use the canned foods as a means of adding more meat to the diet.

Notwithstanding that the canned stuff is already pretty OK, if you can stand the smell it can be worth looking into fresh/frozen tripe. Here's one site with just about all you ever could want to know about tripe: www.greentripe.com

That was what I was thinking of going with just because of what you said but was a little confused since they were both 5 star foods. The Tripett is 2 cents more per ounce but I would rather pay that extra to get the better stuff.

In the warmer months, I do get whole cow stomachs and cut them up myself. The smell doesn't bother me (was raised on a farm) but cutting the stomach is so darn hard. It is too cold to be outside long enough to do it right now. I cut them small enough to package but big enough that the dogs have something to chew on. It definitely gives their jaws a workout.

Thanks for all your help! I just ordered dog food yesterday so the next go around I will be ordering a case of tripett.
