Hello everyone,

I have a 9 month old fawn female. She seems to have these quarter sized bumps all over her like hives. She isn't acting funny and they don't seem to itch because shes not really scratching. They showed up yesterday, but the only thing i can think of is that we went to the dog park (like every saturday) and maybe she was allergic to something. She has gotten a few little bumps similiar to these before, but much smaller like ant bites and they usually go away within a day.

Does anyone have any advice on how long i should wait to see if they go way?? Thanks in advance........

Be prepared, your dog may have allergies. Thats how it started with my friends boxer. One evening, we were out fishing by the lake where we live, and all of a sudden, COVERED IN HIVES! Freaked me out! He was around 1 or 2yrs old. Never got hives like that again, but each summer after he was miserable. Skin red, itchy and he was smelly. We had him on Benedryl all the time, we switched his food, and after nothing worked, and yeast infections, and scratching so had he burst a blood vessel in his ear, he was allergy tested and has just started on allergy shots. I'm not saying this will be your baby, but don't be suprised.

Thats one of the things I was worried about. Luckily I woke up this morning and they are almost all gone. I think it might have been something she ate because last night she woke me up throwing up. She threw up once and from then on she went to sleep......

Thanks for the input......

I know Lady-girl got into a few ant mounds and also would get hives for whatever reason... when she was out in the sun too long, sunbathing... she would come back in with hives, they wouldn't last longer then a few hours, but she also wouldn't act like they were annoying or itching...

good luck...

Luca got hives after being in the garden about 6 months ago. He was absolutely smothered. We gave him benadryl and by the next afternoon they were all but gone. Never did find out what caused it and it hasn't happened since!

Someone else had told me benedryl also, but i was a little skeptical about it. I guess they werent just making it up. Roxy goes to the dogpark every saturday so hopefully this doesnt repeat itself. If it does then ill make an appointment with the VET ASAP........

I would definatly not hesitate to use Benadryl again... I gave it to my boy when he got stung by a bee on 2 seperate occassions... worked like a charm...

We live by Benadryl. I can't tell you how many times it has literally saved our 15 month old's life. It's tough to narrow it down but just last week, Braddock's tongue was so swollen that he almost lost his life for lack of breathing. Luckily we popped two benadryl before racing to the Vet to get a shot of it... SO SCARY.... the vet thought that the first two benadryll made all the difference in saving some time for him. He's had countless reactions to countless things! He told was a good rule for normal dosage was to go by 1 mg per lb. Children's benadryll is usually closer dosage. Good Luck!

Barney is on a benadryl cap twice a day for that problem. We use the clear ones to avoid any possibilty of allergy to the colorings.

While I dearly love our dog park, after a long while we realized that his acute belly problems stemmed from our visits there. When you consider that the poop, pee and all those other fluids set on the ground, especially during dry weather, and the dogs are exposed to it on their skin and when they play with their toys, much can be taken into their systems.

Many dogs have no problems there, and I envy their people, but I have found that a long off-leash walk is better for his health than time in the park.

Bendadryl

Hi everyone, I'm glad that I'm not the only one that keeps benadryl on hand. After a trip the emergency clinic, my vet recommended keeping it on hand. It does wonders.
