Last Friday I thought my boxer, Layla, has pulled/sprained a muscle in her shoulder. I took her to the emergency vet clinic where they felt that was probably correct. Last evening I was rubbing her shoulders from behind and noticed a definate swelling. Not being comfortable with this I took her to our regular Vet today and he feels it is a hemotoma caused by trauma ie running into something. The internet has a lot of info on hemotomas in the ears but this is left front where the upper leg joins the body. Has anyone dealt with this situation and how was it resolved?

ex-ray

I asked them to ex-ray her just to be sure there is nothing with the bones. He felt she ran into something. I quess as crazy as they are, that is certainly possible. He said that it may go away on it's own, or the bump may remain. He told me that there are so many blood vessels that meet in the neck. Maybe humans are the same, I never really gave that a thought. Glad I felt the sump though. It made me seek another opinion. Will post update tomorrow. Thanks.

I've never dealt with a hemmatoma on a dog before, but I have seen many on horses. On a horse, they usually go away on their own. They are not of a concern at all. But if you are concerned with her and not comfortable with it, try putting a heating pad on it for a little while do help desolve it. But I would most definetly consult with the vet first, just incase she has pulled something too in which that case, heat would not be the best.

Update

The Vet ex-rayed and said she has a soft tissue injury and a hemotoma as a result. He said it will go away on it's own,but will give her an anti-inflamatory also. I feel better. Better safe and have an injury undetected that would cause problems later down the road.

I'm glad you found out for sure what it is. I know it can be scarey when your furkids get injured. :)
