Boxer Pal
Hi,

My family has had boxers before, and we have LOVED them. However, I have never had to search and buy one on my own! I have been conducting some research on boxers and breeders, but I hear so much to watch out for that I have doubts now everytime I talk to a breeder!

I have recently talked to a breeder who owns an award winning male, and has referred me someone who recently brought their female to him to breed. I called her and she said that she is excited about their litter and that they just did this for fun. She said that she LOVES her female dog and she is beautiful and well tempered, and she seems to know what she is talking about, yet from the horror stories I have heard about breeders, I hesitate. Should I be so nervous? Or is a puppy from this litter acceptable?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Any reputable breeder that I know does not breed "for fun". They are very serious about their dogs and their puppies. Other things that you need to find our are: Testing of heart, hips, eyes, thyroid of BOTH male and female. Do they show their dogs - this is how they know their male/female is of boxer standards. How often do they breed? At what age do they breed?

This was previously posted by gmacleod in another thread which should help you out.

At http://www.boxerworld.com/breeders you'll find a list of the health tests that should be performed on the parents of any puppy you do consider buying, plus a (non-exhaustive) list of breeders who do health testing. If you don't have any luck with that, the best place to start looking for a breeder is your local boxer club, who should be able to point you toward any reputable breeders who health test and may have litters coming up. Good luck
