Hi, Just discovered this place. I brought home my 8 week old (today) puppy yesterdfay. Her name is Maggie Mae and she is fawn colored with white socks. She's a real beauty and we will hopefully fill each other's worlds with love and lots of fun. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions since this is my first Boxer. I had a Beagle when I was young, but my parents really did all the training of him. This time, it is me and Maggie Mae. I'm sure I'll make mistakes, but in time I'm confident Maggie and I will work it all out.

Right now she's still sniffing out the house and sleeping a lot. Got her lots of chew toys and so forth. I don't have a crate yet, but plan on getting one this week. I'm a little overwhelmed since there is so much to learn and so much to teach a new puppy (besides playing with her and having fun). I hope I'm a good Daddy. I'm sure gonna try my best.

Been reading through the forums and following links for good information. Thanks to all for their contributions.

I'll let you know if I have any major problems or questions. So far so good. She's got a terrific disposition: sweet, calm, affectionate and very playful when she wants to be.

I still need to be able to catch her in "the act" to get her on the paper so I can paper train her. So far in the first day and a half, I haven't been fast enough. I just went to the store and bought a jumbo six-pack of paper towels!! I'm sure I'll need them in the next week or so. :)

Anyway, hi to all and thanks for your information and postings. They are very helpful.

Dan, Welcome & Good luck with Maggie Mae. We adopted Jake after he was through the puppy phase so I probably won't be much help, but I can tell you that you will never regret choosing a Boxer. Boxers are funny, affectionate, intelligent, protective canines.

Congratulations on getting Maggie Mae, I hope you have years of fun and understanding together. You couldn't have chosen a better breed than a Boxer, they are so lovable and are definately a 'people'dog. Welcome, also to the board, I have learnt so many things since I have been on it, there is always someone that has a good suggestion or remedy.

Hello Dan, and welcome to the board. As Suzanna wrote you won't regret choosing this great breed! What made you choose a boxer and not a beagle again?

Thanks all for the hearty welcome. I am truly in love with this little floppy eared gal.

Beagles are great (Santa brought him when I was a little kid -- I forgot to specify the breed in my letter to Santa), but I have always wanted a Boxer since I can remember. I just think they are the best looking dogs around, so regal and strong and dignified. Class acts. And they all do seem to be very people oriented, especially good with kids. That is important since I live across the street from an elementary school. Kids and puppies, you know how they are. So, I wanted a kid friendly breed. We just took our first little walk and five little kids had to pet her. She was so sweet. She just sat right down and let them pet away, wiggling that little buzz of a tail 90 miles a minute. She's still a little afraid of traffic noise when she gets close to the major street, but she'll learn.

Anyway, thanks again for the welcome. I don't feel so alone now raising this little one all by myself. I'm sure this will be quite an experience for me. Already I'm loving it and can't get enough of her. And I'm sure we'll get that paper training down soon too! :)

Best regards to all you Boxers and Boxer lovers out there.

Dan

Has Maggie Mae had her shots yet? If not, be careful where you take her as she can very easily pick up some germs. Stray dogs can leave germs behind when they are running around, and strays don't have the shots that other dogs have. She is lucky to be so near to a school, think of all the playmates she has!

Excellent advice. She had her first round of shots on the 10th of the month, so I suspect she's OK. Round two in a couple more weeks.

She's feeling her oats today, for sure. Day three and she's finally decided its time to play and play hard. I'm in for a day!!
