I also love taking my dogs to the beach for a romp. Since Purdy is sometimes aggressive, I keep them on their leashes until I size up the situation. The last time I went, a gang of dogs ran up to us the moment we entered the beach. One of them, a very fat Benji type, approached Purdy, who stiffened into a dominant stance without growling or anything. The Benji dog flipped onto his back where he squirmed at her feet like a helpless turtle, screaming bloody murder. Gilroy, Purdy, the gang of dogs and I just stood there, watching him writhe and bellow all by himself. Soon, his owner ran up to me and yelled, "WOULD YOU CONTROL YOUR DOGS, LADY!!" I just looked at him, looked down at my two dogs standing there calmly on their short leashes, and looked back at him until he realized how ridiculous he sounded. He didn't see the humor in it, however, and stormed off with his pooch. I did feel badly for him, I'm sure he was worried, but from my perspective it was the funniest darn thing! I made sure I walked my dogs in the OTHER direction.
The first trip to the beach was fun, since we normally go to a freshwater lake. Their expressions when they greedily lapped up the salt water were priceless!
