Mopar had an episode the other night with having head tremors. Scared me and pop like you can't believe. I took him to the vet today for a full checkup. He has an ear infection and we got medicine for it. The vet said the ear infection could have caused it but she didn't think so. She said she thought it could be starting of Epilepsy but she didn't think that was the case either. She asked if Moe could have gotten into something toxic. I told he I didn't think so but he has a habit of putting everything in his mouth. She asked if he has gotten any new toys lately. I said yes he had gotten a new one just before this episode. The vet was concerned that the toy may have come from China and with the toy recalls she suspected that might have been what caused the head tremors. She said check on any new toys and if they come for China NOT to give them to Moe. Needless to say we are off for a new toy at Pet Smart and I will be alot more choosy on what he gets. Just wanted to give a heads up....

I doubt it is the new toy but you never know... Do a search on head tremors and you will find that unfortuneately you are not alone.
I have yet to hear of a medical reason for them. I have also done blood work with no answers.

My girl has not had them in awhile. The closest I can see to an answer is low blood sugar. The only thing all dogs seem to have in common is it happens when the dog is at rest.

I give Abby honey or peanut butter. Not sure if it helps as the episodes do not last long either way. I have been feeding Abby small snacks through out the day. I THINK that maybe why I have seen less but who knows, now I have typed this Abby will probably have an attack tonight.

If you ever get any definitive answers I would love to hear about it.

Yes there a lot of threads on head tremors. My Austin used to get them until I changed his food. He hasn't had one in over four years now.

I have often heard of head tremors being caused by low blood sugar. Often a change in food can solve the problem. Feeding more often might also be a good idea. When she is having a tremor try giving her a spoonful of corn syrup. What are your currently feeding?

I don't mean to hijack this thread... but the same thing has happened to Hazel three times this past week. The first two times were after I gave her a new treat, and I put two and two together and threw the treats away. The other one was out of nowhere. She had eaten right before bed so I don't think it is the low blood sugar. She was sleeping all three times though. I did some research on here and read Jan's thread about how she thought it was low blood sugar. Maybe we should change Hazel's food (we feed Blue Buffalo). We haven't had an episode in a few days so hopefully they are gone for good. Please keep us updated if there are anymore episodes and if you find out any more info.

My Precious Tuff E. Nuff (R.I.P.) Had them.. And all the testing never showed any answers.. They would not come very often. Like sometimes not for a year or more, then all the sudden he'd have an episode.. Never any big deal, in fact he'd just try to keep going w/ whatever he was doing, and I'd just calm him and they'd subside.. Never seemed to really cause him any bad effects! I was far more upset than he ever seemed to be.
I noticed his would come sometimes if there was alot of stress around the home.. (Back then, raising my youngest? *rolls eyes* Well.. it affected Tuffy) So I refused to allow any negative commotion around him! (Tuff that is! lol)
I also posted here in BW, but that was long ago.. So you will find lots if you do a search for head tremors. Maybe some of the posts will help ease your worry.
Tuffy' passed away last year at the age of 9. But it was nothing to do w/ head tremors. It was a massive tumor that was inoperable in his abdomen.
Not to say that there might be something "Not quite right" with your baby.. but.. seems most of us that have experienced these head tremors, have never found much in the way of answers.
Best of Luck w/ this.. I can relate.. because it would shake me up everytime, but I'd make every effort to just calm him and myself!

My 2 boxers Brandy and Zeus get head tremors too. They have been through testing and we do not know why they get them either. We have changed their foods and the amount of tremors decreased. Its definitely a good thing to try first and see where you go from there. :) Good luck with your baby it is scary when you see them in a tremor!

Well Moe had his second one today. Both came on as he was waking up from sleep. We changed his food to Merrick today and he eats 3 times a day because of his tummy problems. My poor hubby gets very upset when they happen and I don't know which of them needs my help more. The vet said if he had anymore that they wanted to test his liver. The poor thing has had so much bloodwork in his short life that I feel so bad making him go through it again. I wouldn't mind if we could get some kind of answer but it always seems to go nowhere. I am just so bummed out today. We were hoping his health problems were getting better.....

Still no tremors from Abby in a few months. Mine did have her liver tested. At first it did not bother Abby but it does as of late. She will find me. Although not as frequent they seem to last longer.

This is my first boxer to have them. I would love answers.

We've talked about these head tremors alot lately on our rescue's forum page online. Several people are convinced that the tremors are somehow related to certain smells. For instance, Febreeze has been suggested as a big trigger. I have no idea if this is true, but it's a thought!
