I'm so proud, Happy and I passed the canine good citizen test today! appicon

We had to repeat the "supervised separation" because the first time Happy thought we were playing hide and seek and was play-bowing and barking, trying to get away from the handler to find me
The second time she did fine :)

We will probably start some therapy work soon, I'm so excited!

    Just wanted to share :)

he even reminded me we needed tortillas at the grocery today ... ( stopped DEAD & sniffed at them ) lol ... ( i forget i am in PUBLIC & talk to him ), said " ahh good call ~ i would have forgot ! " some old man laughed so hard i though he was going to pee himself !! he must think the dog can read a grocery list !!! he he .... :)

That is too funny  You can take him into the grocery store?!

I was worried about the "ignoring the other dog" part, too. I could *never* do the greeting with a stranger and strange dog on the street. But training class is an environment where Happy has learned to be around other dogs without getting overly excited or feel threatened.

Oh yes, she got lots of treats once we were done :D

So, I'm going to ask a very (probably) dumb question...

What is the canine good citizen test? (Just figured out what the CGC abbreviation stood for tho!)

yes ~ can take him into any public place ~ he is a reg service dog " in training " has a cool little jacket to let others know what he is doing ! its also a great time to talk about RESCUE , when ppl stop to chat about him , he just lays down & waits , they are like " what a good boy" then i launch into , he is a rescue !! see what u can get !!! ( with lots of training & hard work of course !! ) :) :) :)

he is a dif story at home though , he is a brat , but when that jacket goes on , he is a dream ! maybe i should take our next test in his jacket !! lol

It's a program by the AKC: AKC's Canine Good CitizenĀ® (CGC) Program
Becoming a CGC lays the foundation for many other AKC activities like Competitive Obedience and is also needed for therapy work.

Basically we took an CGC preparation class at our training facility (6 weeks, 5 weeks of training, last week is the test). During the class we practiced the 10 skills the dog has to perform during the test. AKC's Canine Good CitizenĀ® (CGC) Program

It's a lot of fun and a great bonding experience.
