Boxer Booster
Rocky turned two today! I had a long day at work, got home to find that Rocky had managed to get the newspaper off the table and decorated the living room in confetti. But when he met me at the door, wagging his little butt, all I could think of was how lucky I am to have this crazy dog!
Rocky's my first dog and this site played a big part in my decision to get a boxer. Rocky and I have convinced several people I know just how great boxers are - and they ended up getting their own. I've also talked a few people out of getting a boxer. Not because they're not wonderful animals but because they just don't make a good fit for some people or what they're looking for in a dog. Some things I've learned in the last two years:
1. If raised properly, boxers are incredibly loyal and always friendly.
2. There's no such thing as a stranger.
3. Boxers are very energetic! I'll take Rocky on two or three hour hikes, get home and he wants to play Frisbee!
4. Boxers are smart. If you don't give them things to do, they'll find their own things to do. These are usually things you would prefer they didn't do.
5. A boxer loves to be with his/her family.
6. You MUST have a sense of humor to own a boxer!
7. Boxers need exercise! See #3. You can't wear a young one out!
8. Some boxers SNORE! LOUD!
9. Boxer flatulence can kill small animals!
10. Nothing is better than a squeaky toy!
11. If you have company, a boxer will invariably demonstrate his/her prowess at performing numbers 8 through 10.
12. If you throw it, they will chase.
13. A 70 pound boxer can easily take up 2/3 or more of a queen sized bed.
14. A well placed "cold nose nudge" can take you from a dead sleep to standing and alert in 2.7 seconds.
15. A 70 pound lap dog makes it difficult to maneuver in a lazy-boy.
16. A sleeping 70 pound lap dog is near impossible to wake when in his favorite environment.
17. Boxers can be stubborn. Really stubborn.
18. Boxers can make you mad.
19. It is impossible to stay mad at a boxer.
20. If you have the time, space, energy, patience and sense of humor, there's no better companion to have!
I just want to thank everyone here for the helpful advice and stories you share and also the administrators/moderators for taking the time and effort to make this site possible!
