Gus pulling his fur out

My 7 yeard old cat has suddenly started pulling his fur out. Yesterday morning I noticed a couple of places on his side where the hair was missing. When I got home from work last night he was sitting beside my chair bathing and I watched him. He would lick an area then pull the fur out. I had been noticing fur on the carpet and on the cedar chest where he likes to lay in the sun but didn't think anything of it. Now I am worried. He has been through a lot lately, with us moving from Wisconsin to Alabama in January and then getting a baby sister boxer in February, then my mom was here the weekend of Halloweenand slept in his bedroom and my granddaughter and her mother were here this weekend and slept in his bedroom. I don't know if it could be stress or if there is something more serious going on. He has always been MY cat and not comfortable with "outsiders". He also does not like the dog. Has anyone experienced anything like this?

weird as it is, my cat does it too!!! I have a little tabby cat, and she licks licks licks and pulls at her fur on her under side and "arm pits". We havent been able to pin anything on the behavior (like allergy or even stressful situations) The dogs actually leave her alone (they chase the other kitty instead) The one thing that does help is to put neosporin (its a kind from the vet) on the bare spots- as she licks herself raw!!!! It will heal up, fur grows back - then she will do it again!!

Weird.
