I took Debo to the dog park again - it was scary at first because a BIG Rottie kept attacking Debo (kept humping him) but this was WAY worse than the pit from last time, this dog was saying "I dare you to get up and move!" And he would SLAM Debo down, so I put Debo on the leash and noticed a Boxer down the way and introduced myself and Debo, turns out the owners were REALLY nice. We moved down to the secluded (I guess the small dog area and stayed over there while I FINALLY got to watch Debo Box! WOW, it was great! They had a two year old brindle (Debo is just as tall as she is and he's only 7 months!) They had a great time and we agreed to meet again every Monday. They said there were many Boxer owners that come to the park so I will post a sign for a Boxer play group on Mondays!

If anyone is in the AZ - West Phoenix area, the park is at 63rd & Olive Avenues. ~ but I don't think anyone on this board is from that area...I guess I'll have to pass the address around at the Boxer Play Group!!! :D

I'm so happy and Debo is so tired!

PS about that Rottie - turns out that the couple said he attacked a Boxer a few weeks ago and the Boxer had to be checked at a vet (I don't know how the Boxer is, okay I suppose because they didn't make much of a deal about it, they said when that Rottie is there, they just leash their girl until he leaves) - and when I put Debo on the leash, the guy (who was about as big as his dog) kept his dog away so I didn't think too much of it...but it was rude that his dog was just slamming Debo and I had to take the initiative of putting myself between my dog and his a few times before the guy got the message...muscle head!

Anyway, thanks for listening to me ramble on about my dog park!

Cool! :D
I love going to the dog park. I meet some great people there (and dogs too)!!!
Hope your "boxer night" goes better than mine has. Haven't attracked anyone yet. Although one couple said they would come on Tuesdays with their boxer.

Sounds like, despite the rotti event, your Debo had a great time at the park! I love those leash-free parks too. Not only does Harley get to socialize and have a free run but I get to socialize too and talk "boxers" to anybody that will listen! :)

We've also experienced a couple of knuckle-headed dog owners who don't think it necessary to keep their dogs from attacking all the others. When we had Harley at the park last weekend there were two huskies there belonging to two different people. They constantly growled, snarled and snapped at each other and who had their head right in the middle of the rukus the whole time but my Harley. He was just sniffing but I was so worried that he'd get hurt that we were forced to leash him and leave. Wish we could join you in your Boxer Playdays!

I am in the process of starting a dog park here in Arlington. The city just emailed me yesterday and told me the measure was approved by the city board and now we have to work out some fine tune issues. I've read their proposal, and everything sounds great, except they want to oust "aggressive" dogs. My boy is not "aggressive", he is...however...dominant. I believe there IS a difference. I wrote a long email stating that socialization of dominant/aggression prone dogs at an early age are key factors in socialization and that we need a "challenged" dogs section at this park. We'll see how it goes. I'm glad Debo is doing so well. I can't believe he's already 7 months old!!!! I remember when he was so sick. How time flies.

Jennifer - YOU GO GIRL!
Congrats on pursuing that! That's great! I do agree with you ~ and the whole Rottie thing, that was an act of dominance, I knew to leash my boy - because he was young - the rottie was not attacking to kill or hurt, just slamming Debo around, which is just natural dog dominance stuff! I just wish that after I leashed my boy the man would have taken better care to keep his dog from mine, but I guess in a dog park you take the good and not so good! (He did after about three times of me pulling his dog off of Debo) that's when we went to the secluded part and everybody was happy! Good luck on getting the city to see the difference between dominance and aggressiveness!
