Got a nasty letter from garbage company

For the past 6 yrs I have ALWAYS put my dog waste in the yard debris can with no problems!!
All of the sudden I get a letter from the local garbage company that they will refuse to pick up my yard debris can if I do not "immeadiatly stop putting dog waste in the can" what the heck?? no explanation (ie...changes etc) I am so mad at them right now, I dont even want to call. So I guess it I am suppose to put it in the regular can then which to me is worse!

How/where do BW members dispose of dog waste???

We pick it up and put it into sandwich bags and keep a trash can outside. Then on trash day, we just put it out with the rest of the trash. We, so far, haven't had an issue

We have one of those inground Doggie Doolies-industrial size since we have 4. It works pretty good but once the temp goes below 40* it doesn't work well. You waste eliminator to put in it and always keep it full of water. I just wish there was something super super strength that would make the yuck "melt" faster. I got mine through www.carealotpetwarehouse.com.They carry the bigger model and it was less expensive than anyone else.

We keep a ktichen size garbage can out by the shed ..with a large black trash bag ....keep the bag closed plus a lip for the can ...after about 2 weeks we tie the bag closed and toss it in with the other grabage...

Funny you should ask, just the other day I was talking to my BF about what he does with the "poopie piles". We take turns cleaning out our small yard every couple of days. I noticed the yard was clean when I came home from work, and later that nite when I took out the garbage, I did not see a recycled walmart bag in the bottom of the can. All this time I assumed he was using the same method as me: put piles in walmart bag, tie shut, put in can with rest of garbage for garbage day. So I had to ask what happened to all the piles. So he tells me that he flings them into the street at night when no one is looking. Since we live on a busy street, the cars run over it and take it away. First that is gross, second probally against the law and third, what if I am driving over it too? No more poo flinging in our house, after a lengthy conversation, he has agreed to use the bags too. Kinda funny, kinda gross, just had to share.

I use a plastic tote and put starbucks coffee grounds in it, along with my own grounds. I would stir it daily after butt bomb clean up and dump it twice a week in the yard debris can.
I just thought I was doing what I was suppose to and then to get a letter with no explanation on how maybe I need to do it just baffels me. I am going to call them tomorrow and find out what is going on.

There was a huge issue just like this in the smaller city we lived in. The city came out with a by-law stating that dog waste could not be put into regular garbage or into lawn trimmings etc. There solution was to bury it :eek: Well after many phonecalls back and forth, and getting the environmental groups involved, my husband and our neighbor made the newspaper as having fought city hall and winning. The outcome was, dog waste has to be double bagged and scooping the poop, putting it into a bag, tying it off, then depositing that bag into the regular garbage is acceptable.

BTW it has always been a joke that only a boxer owner would fight city hall over dogpoop and actually win :D
