For those of you who give their dogs glucosamine, chondroitin, and/or MSM supplements, what kind do you use? Where do you buy them from?

Can you use supplements made for humans or do you need to use ones made specifically for dogs? I was looking on the Puritan's Pride website and it seems like it would be alot cheaper to buy the human kind, if they can be given to our pups =)

Thanks!

Buster is now on Glyco-Flex III. I either purchase the supplements from my vet or from Dr. Fosters and Smith. He's been on several different brands and doses through the years. He has hip dysplasia and very bad joints, and this does wonders for him. I always check with my vet as to the dosages I should be giving him. You didn't specify if there was a need for these supplements, so I would suggest you speak to your vet before starting anything, especially if you want to give the human kind. I don't know how many mg per tablet are in them.

Tootsie, Riley was at the vet for a limp in one of her back legs on Monday. She was sedated, x-rayed, and her knees were manipulated. The vet felt a laxity in both of her knees, and said that a glucosamine supplement might be good.

That's why I was interested! Thanks for your reply!

I use Syn-Flex - in addition to glucosamine and chondroitin, it also has Vitamins C, A, E, and Omega fatty acids. - Cathy

I use the human kind. Booker T started a regiment of them and it has been fabulous. 1000MG daily of all 3 and you are good to go. I buy them at GNC or even Costco. Whatever "extra" is in their body simply gets washed away during poop patrol :)

Zeus has taken meds from Puritan Pride. That is where I get most of his Glucos/Chondroitin/MSM and other meds from. He actuall tends to have better results with human grade products versus k9 products. He just came off of Glyco111 (which is a k9 product) and within two days of being on a human med version he was acting much more energetic/relaxing without any pain symptoms which makes me favor the human products for him. At this time he is on Spring Valley (which I purchased at Wal-Mart) Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM for about $18.00 for 160 tablets. I`m waiting for Puritan Pride to send me another catalog hopefully with the bigger discounts. The last catalog, it was cheaper for me to go to Wal-Mart and Spring Valley...Zeus has done well with. Like I said though, the results I see with Zeus...he does better on human grade!

my dogs use a liquid form that I sell. It is more bioavaliable, less stressful on their body system and human grade. I also use Costco's Human grade it is a high quality product.
