Hunter's Moon

Boxer Pal
Hi all,

Last night my Hunter took off when I let him out for a pee.He NEVER takes off, I don't know what got into him.
It was -45 Celcius here with the Windchill. We searched for hours with no luck. We finally found him after lunch today with the help of the Radio station.
Amazingly he doesn't have any freezing or frostbite!!!! I was sooo happy!!! :) He was found outside a dog sled kennel on the outskirts of town he was shaking and very cold. Unfoutunatly he was chewed up pretty bad by another animal and has wounds all over his body. The Vet gave me some antibiotics for him but he seems to be in alot of pain.
His one hind legs has deep wounds and is swollen pretty big.:( I was wondering if anyone knew if children's Asprin or Tylenol would be ok? A friend suggested I give him approx 160 Mg of children's asprin. Thanks a bunch

Ascripton

Sandra,

I am sorry oyur baby got hurt, bat I am glad he came home! My Vet recomended "Ascrpiton" brand (buffered with Maloxx)pain reliever for Greta's arthritus. 1-325 mg tablet every 12 hours. Do not give Tylonal or Advil (Ibuprofin) as it can cause Kidney and Liver damage in dogs.

I recomend you call your vet, tell him how much pain Hunter is in and ask what he recomends for pain, if it is severe he may give you a perscription medication to help him get thru the first few days.

Good luck and let us know how Hunter is doing.

I would check with your vet. My vet doesn't recommend aspirin for boxers, because of their sensitive tummies.

Pain Meds

I just posted about Koolba's broken toes...and what my vet said was 1/2 baby aspirin (she's only 10 weeks) was okay one time in the day...he prescribed EtoGesic...1/24hours, but said not to give it to her unless it was clear she was in A LOT of discomfort. He said pain was good for injured animals because it keeps them off the leg, for example, and keeps them resting...since they don't have the logic (some) humans do to let themselves get better! Of course, we don't want them in too much pain, however...good luck!

Our vet always recommended buffered aspirin for mild pains, but if Hunter is having serious pain, your vet can prescribe something stronger (and maybe with a MILD sedative to help him rest while recuperating. Buffered aspiring is coated to help protect their tummies. In fact, we had an arthritic standard poodle when I was growing up that we gave buffered aspirin to every day! But no Tylenol - risk associated with kidney and liver damage. I hope Hunter is better soon!!!
