Gingersmama
Boxer Buddy
Friday Ginger and I were puppy-sitting a lab puppy. I watched them closely all day. The two of them were playing pretty hard all day. I checked frequently for broken skin and blood and of course there was none.
Late Friday night, Ginger crashed. I figured she was exhausted and didn't think much about it. Saturday morning, she didn't want to get up to go potty or eat anything. I finally coaxed her into doing both, but she was acting weird and drooling a lot. She's usually a total priss and prisses don't drool
She avoided the puppy all morning and I figured that she was still tired from playing all day. The puppy left mid-morning on Saturday. She was covered in slobber, so I gave her a bath as soon as he left. There were 2 big spots of what I thought were dried slobber on both sides of her neck. But, once I got her dried off, I realized that they were still there. She didn't move much all day and I had to convince her to eat and get up to go potty.
So Sunday morning, I decided to take a closer look, and it looks like the spots on the side of her neck have scabbed up.
I've been cleaning up her neck with peroxide and applying some antibiotic cream to the spots, but she's still not acting like herself. I still don't understand why her neck is scabby and her hair is still messed up since I couldn't see where the skin was broken.
So, I guess my question is... did she maybe overdo it and pull a muscle that's causing her not to want to do much, or are the spots on her neck really that sore? How much time should I give her to get her energy back, before I really worry and take her to the vet?
I feel like such an awful Mommy now. I really thought they were just playing and having a good time....
