Foster issues?

I have my second foster in now and he is adorable and loving and we only have one small problem. He is NOT a cat lover! Any ideas or training tips? He broke free of my hubby the other day and grabbed the cat and took down the christmas tree. He is currently confined due to a broken leg that is healing and is only let out on leash until he is stronger so that is good, but I want to get this under control for when he doesn't have to be on leash all the time. As of right now, if the cat is around when he is out of crate, I don't let him look at him and say no if he tries and will, if needed physically turn his head to me. I'm open to any and all help and suggestions! :)

Thanks in advance,
Jennifer

That's a tough one. If he gives the cat a hard stare and you cannot break his gaze, I don't know if he can be trained to like cats. Some dogs have a high prey drive and no amount of training can really curb that. Separation might be your best bet. I have a cat, too, and I just keep her separated from the dogs. She is happier that way, I'm sure.

I was afraid of that! He gets set on the cat and you can't move him! Now, when he goes out he is constantly "looking" for him. Poor Smokey has been used to Sadie and Abner and they are all buddies, he's freaked out. I'll just have to be sure and keep them separated. Thanks for your help! :)
