I am about at my wits end! Pixie has never had a flea problem...until now...and it sure didn't take long b4 it became one-a problem that is. We've bathed her, gave her and our two cats a treatment of Frontline and they each got some pill that our vet threw in for free... we've treated our yard... and I thought this was a battle we were going to win...until this morning. Now I'm freaking out. I found a flea on my three year old skin baby! And not only that but it was laying eggs! I want to do a MAJOR overhaul on our house...however, I need some advice as to how/what to use that is kid friendly. I also have a 13month old...these kids are floor level all day! How do I treat my carpet etc and do so w/o putting them at risk with chemicals?! At what intervals? How long will this take if I'm diligent in my persute? I've consulted my vet but other than what I've already done she's of no use. HELP :(

There are various sprays or foggers you can use to treat your house and it should tell you on the instructions how long you have to stay out of the house and when its safe to return. You should also wash all bedding etc both dog and human in very hot water. Good luck.

You're going to have to bomb your house. If your worried about the kids I'd bomb the house in the morning and stay somewhere else over night. Then make sure you vacuum the carpets the next day. It also depends on when you put the flea stuff on the dogs. I'm not sure how long fleas live, but they probably bred in your carpet and are still hatching. These fleas may not have taken a ride on your dogs yet so are still alive. Eventually they should die out with nothing to eat. It will just take a cycle of them hatching. I don't think that people are as easy to feed on as animals. You can always put flea collars on the kids!! (just a joke)

Thank you for the suggestions...Just one problem with bombing the house...I don't have anywhere to put my cats-they are stictly indoor and I don't want to put Pixie outside overnight. She would absolutely freak out. I've looked up the Diatomaceous Earth that someone suggested and if I can find it I'm gonna try it...I'm open to anything...I just don't have anywhere everyone can go while waiting out a house bombing=( Is there another alternative?

Can someone tell me more about those garlic tablets and how much to give?

My sister had a flea problem with her cats and she used "20 Mule Team Borax" on the carpets, and I think that is safe for pets and skin kids. Though, I don't know if it kills adult fleas and larvae. I think you spread it over your carpets and then sweep it in and let it sit for a while and then vacuum it up thoroughly. You might have to do that once or twice. You still will have to treat the animals with frontline or whatever flea drops you use. She was flea free in about a week. Good Luck... I hope it helps.

Call your local pest control company. The one I've used has pet friendly sprays, though I don't remeber if they were used for fleas. Spiders were my problem at the time. If you must bomb the house yourself, you can board the cats or take them with you to a pet friendly hotel. Also, an older vet told me to use moth balls in your vacumn cleaner bag or canister. The fumes from them don't allow the eggs to hatch. Fleas lay eggs in carpet and nubby upholstery, so vacumn them well.

Good luck. I detest fleas.

Well, It's been a long day of bug busting...The last loads of laundry are drying now and the carpet is finally dry. We ended up calling our locale feed store and they recomended spraying it down with a fine mist of I.G. Regulator concentrate with NYLAR and Demon w/ cypermethrin which is supposedly the same stuff an exterminator would use. They assured us it would be safe once dry -for what that's worth... Pixie was given a flea bath, and all the fur kids got a dose of capstar and a slathering of frontline. We also sprayed our yard with .55% Mialithon and gave our fur kids something for tape worms - just in case. As for the skin kids...they're bathed and smelling sweet... I'm still contemplating those collars, though ;p

A big thank you to all! This is our first dog adventure and consiquently our first flea round up, too. I'm hoping this is the last we see of them.

If anyone reads this and knows about those garlic tabs ie. how much please post. I'm very curious and would MUCH rather prevent organicly than pulling out the big guns again.

As well as treating Star with Frontline I also give her a clove of garlic a day. Although it depends if your dog likes garlic :) I just chop it up and add it to her food.

I chop one clove of garlic to Krose's meal two times a week and didn't have problems since then. I don't give that much because he really smells
