Boxer Pal
Hello, my wife and I recently got a Boxer puppy and would like to know if there is anything I need to know to "Boxer-proof" our home? For instance, are they known to be chewers, should I hide all of my wires? Any advice is appreciated!

Congrats on your new baby. appicon Well to answer your question from my own experience with our boxer. Ali did chew up my cell phone, ate my glasses and would unzip the couch covers and pull out all the stuffings. She was about 6 months old when she did this. Now saying all that I felt my glasses out and also my cell phone where she could reach them. She also loved to chew up books and still likes paper if it is left around but that's only minor. A good boxer is a tired boxer and because I am retired I could get her lots of exercise. Chew toys and of course a kong keeps them happy. You can stuff it with peanut butter or treats and it keeps them busy. I used to do that alot when we had people over. Some people do crate their boxers when they are not home or at night. Boxers are high energy dogs but like I said exercise is the key to a good boxer. We have another dog at our house and I think that helped Ali because he was settled down when she came along and he was company for her so she didn't get into so much mischief. Good luck.

Welcome!

Welcome! You picked an awesome breed of dog. Boxers are a lot of fun and are very humerous. I have a 7 yr old female that never chewed up anything. I always had toys and chews around for her though, very important. BUT we now have a 5 mo. old boy that chews on everything! So yes, I would make sure you don't have anything down that you don't want chewed up. It is definately not a good idea to leave a puppy unattended in a room. It's amazing the damage they can do in two minutes. Also, if you haven't started so, I would definately crate train. You can find many wonderful forums and articles here at Boxerworld for any topic you need to research. Good luck and congratulations!

Welcome from Bonnie Scotland :)

I don't think it's possible to "Boxer proof " your home  although, having said that, I don't think boxer puppies are any more mischievous than any other breed.

Welcom to BW. Astro says that Boxerproofing a house totaly may be impossible since he can open the microwave(to get the hidden loaf of bread) and the lazy susan and counters aren't much of a problem either. I say good luck!!
