I have just read a post by Elsa about a pit bull that tried to kill a shepperd and I immediately recalled a story I read a month ago in a newspaper. It happened in Moscow. It's about a pit bull trained for fighting, a champion in Moscow. His owner used to take the dog for walks off leash and looked for other dog owners to start a training fight "to keep the pit bull in a good form". So this dog killed a few dogs in their area and seriously injured other few. Then the owner once met a woman with a mideum size (like a pit bull) mix dog which, as the woman said, no one had ever heard growling at someone. The pit bull owner let his dog go although the woman asked him to take the dog on leash, he just said: why, let's the dogs fight. He was pretty sure his dog would tear that mix to pieces. But he was wrong. No one knows why - perhaps, the mix thought that pit bull was going to attack the woman, and he got nuts. The result of the fight - the mix had an ear half torn and a bite on his leg, and THAT IS ALL. As for the pit bull - he had a 6 hour long surgery and vets say he will stay invalid and will never be able to fight again. In addition to numerous wounds he was scalped, his super-firm collar-bone was bitten through and broken, his stomach was torn and his testicles were bitten through too.
This woman, the mix owner, said everything happened so quickly, it was impossible to see anything, but of course she said good bye to her dog 'cause she knew pretty well what the other dog was. When a few days later authorities came to her house (the pit bull owner complained his dog was injured by a monster!!!) they were very much surprised to see a wagging small dog and couldn't believe this dog won a pit bull. Isn't it just striking how small and weak dogs can mobilize themselves in a case of a sudden danger. I'm sure, should they meet on a fight ring, the mix would have no chance.
What is the most disgusting thing in the story is that the pit bull owner was going to euthonize the dog because it cost him much to cure the dog and he was never going to earn money on fights. So, again, it's not dogs, it's their sick owners who distort dogs' mentality and behavior.
